Personally i feel any xrealm timers should last long enough to plan raids around, 2-3 hours, 1 hour is still short enough of a timer to influence the outcome of any relic raids. Since limiting people to 1 realm here isn't an option and 1 hour wouldn't do any raids justice 2-3 is a logical and fair compromise in my opinion, that's plenty of time to get something done on the fly without worrying about a surge of xrealmers and people that like to *hore themselves out to all 3 realms can still do so.. albeit thinking much more carefully about what they want to play.

There should have always been a consequence for people that choose to play multiple realms here, it violates the concept of the game and works against players that do support 1 realm.. as the game should have been played. Hib 4 life! :D

a timer would be nice in general...i currently level my huntress and usually i'd only do so when there's no action for me in alb (inc in braemar or inc for caby), but with such a timer i would just stick to 1 realm for a time, which i do anyway, right now :D

xrealming sucks and as it's hard to "punish" as you can't really proof anything a timer is nice imho...1h is fine though...maybe 90min would be better but 2-3h is a bad idea, as ppl will be annoyed by it when they play some realm, then go somewhere in RL (cinema or some dinner) and when they are back to play a little more in the late evening they still gotta wait like 45 min...sucks :P

how would a timer have been nice for the event?
the only options hibs had was log off or log on to try and have fun on another realm.

There wouldn't be a need to track down and punish anyone, with a 2 hour timer the wait would be the punishment, that's long enough to deter people from hopping realms during relic raids and events but not so long that they can't reasonably play their alts. Fyi calling my idea bad and using imaginary scenarios to support yours doesn't give your opinion any more merit than mine. People should be annoyed that they can't so easily switch realms, like i said it violates the spirit of the game and makes end game RvR here soul-less and more closely described as EvE (everyone vs. everyone). If i remember right, xrealming didn't even start to show up until the first live servers were clustered and that was the dagger in the heart to the concept of realm pride.

the hibzerg gave us quite a good fight at hmg, they used the wall wisely and it took us quite long although we were a lot more and draw a lot of RAs and instas in our zerg. One reason we lost the next fight against the albzerg.

yes and thats the problem, everyone logs on midgard because they know mids will win, and mids keep growing and growing and albs get smaller and smaller. by the time the mid zerg took the relics we had 39 albs in the bg and they had 150.

another reason this happens is the only realm that gets Uthalis is the winning realm, if you lose you get nothing. So these uthalis in a event favor the largest realm and this should be changed so that you can auto loot them and everyone will get some not just the mids.

the way it is now it promotes people to log off from the losing realm and switch to the winning realm.

sums up why there should be such a timer....90min or 2h if you want...3h is way too much though...i mean if after 2h the winner is clear so ppl might want to "log" there, then those few that will actually log there won't make a difference...besides they have to give up 2h of the fun being part of the event/raid/whatever :)

a myth yeah ...

makes totally sense that alb got azzraped after hibs logged off. first 2 fights were intresting - then hibs disappeared and suddenly mids were dominating like hell.

xrealming? a myth...
/set irony off

this event was good idea - but definitly a lot of space for improvement, to my mind
+1 for xrealm timer
+1 for teleporters instead of running for half an hour to the event zone

and btw.
i dont see any point against the timer. it is absolutely no punishment. lets talk about beeing "livelike":
on live, u had to buy 2 instances of daoc + you had to pay for those 2 instances each month.
let's be honest - noone did this. people sticked to their realm, they joined a guild, an allience, and literally started to identify theirselves with their realm.
they usually didnt start playing on a seocnd, or even a thrid realm and switched to it, in case their own realm was losing. instead they logged on another char and went for some bg's or farming. or, in best case, they tried to motivate more poeple to stick to the zerg, they optimized their grplineup etc. and by doing this, they supported the point daoc is all about:
a 3-realm based RvR MMORPG (!)
so to be more "livelike" we should start working against stupid xrealming .... at least in such kind of events

The mid zerg started big (121 in bg + quite a lot that had not joined the bg) so around 140-150. And the numbers were stable during the whole event.
The peak i saw was 141 in bg but by the time nearly everyone had joined the bg, so i would guess like 150 was still the max. I did not see a real boost after we killed the hibzerg or won 3 times against the albzerg.
Maybe some x-realmer helped to keep the number stable and replace some that had to leave, but not like that 20 people suddenly joined the bg/zerg.

X-realming is no myth, but it is by far not the scary thing a lot of people think it is in my opinion.

and the thing that speaks against the timer in the first place is that you just have to reboot your router to get a new ip. And i bet every x-realmer knows how to do this

So how to implement such timer without reading the mac adress or a game-id from every player?

After all, if it is possible to implement such a timer i am 100% pro implementing!

as a business informatic, i can tell that from a technical point of view in todays time (almost) everything is possible in IT ;-)

and i bet that mods already do look for xrealmers and monitor their behaviour
