As someone who has always played merc, I'd die to have a back snare! While Merc does do more damage then BM, they still end up dealing less because of enemy snare peels and disease. You can't Peel a Zerker/bm who is spamming back snare without a slam/mez/root and that alone makes them very deadly. Unfortunately the PF Ra works just like a normal snare so when you deal damage again but don't get a proc the target is gone(if you are disease/snared). Also the worst part about merc is the endo management which effects them(and arms) more then their somewhat mirrored enemies.
So for a class which has a role to Rupt and dps I'd say it goes Zerker>BM>Merc. If you aren't dpsing because you can't keep up with your target then your just a wasted slot. When you start fighting good groups with disease and peel bot you will understand what I'm saying. In my opinion the only reason why merc was even viable on uthgard 1 new ra's was because of charge, now I'm not so sure.... Still doable though for sure!

I thought the snare from prevent flight was unbreakable. You're sure it worked as you described?

Warrior/hero/arms and zerker/bm/merc are pretty similar from what ive seen across the realms. Not identical, but similar. I know this can seem like putting things in a vacuum, but out of curiosity if you had to rank these how would you rank them and why?
Lets stay with the Det-Classes: Deff-Tank 1. Armsman because of Plate and Pole 2. Warrior because of 2H and Troll-Race 3. Hero because of ... nothing left Off-Tank: 1. Berzi because of Offhand-Swing and Troll-Race 2. Blademaster because of Pierce 3. Merc because of ... nothing left How they divide in RA´s? Thats the interesting Question and how they got implement on Uthgard. We´ll see

Yes it is just a normal snare proc so if the next damage is not a snare or PF procs then the target will lose snare. It was bugged on Genesis perma snaring targets, but here it's actually a pretty useless RA like most.

You seem very sure about that. http://lighttanksofdaoc.yuku.com/topic/392/Realm-Ability-Review-Mercenary-RAs#.WFvr71MrJhEJan 30th 2004 Prevent Flight - Brilliant RA that all mercs should get - I don't know what its like on US servers but in Europe the snare is not broken by combat, and has no immunity timer (I don't know if this changes later)
Prevent Flight - Great RA, but pricey, would be largely unnecessary if they made MELEE snares unbreakable in combat (just like PF is...)
March 3rd 2004: http://forums.gucomics.com/archive/index.php/t-1066.htmlthe rather pricey but outstanding RA "Prevent Flight" is better than any snare/root that the melee styles can provide. The rear hammer style will break when the target receives damage, however PF is an unbreakable root on your target.. truly a great ra and it's passive "always on" as well, I love it.
Found lots of other praise for it with a healthy dislike that it was 14 points because it was cited as being so necessary.

I did some testing on beta and it seems prevent flights snare is unbreakable. So it seems to be working as you described.

Maybe are you talking only about melee classes who gain access to DETERMINATION ?
If so it not a melee classes post, its a DETERMINATION post
Non-Determination Melee Classes are non-factors this patch level.
Is Uthgard staying at this patch level forever? If so, will non-determination melee classes stay unwanted in 8v8 for ever? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1.65 patch forever yes, as you see ppl only talk about dps classes with determination RA while they will still say non determination dps are playable and very fun to play where in fact none of them are willing to play a non determination dps class at release.

I'm new to Uthgard and all freeshards for that matter. So forgive my ignorance. Are there going to be updates / patches / RA changes etc? Or whatever is launched on the 6th will stay as is until the server dies? If there are patches I guess they won't follow mythic' patch notes, is that correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No need to feel offended, pal. General questions about uthgard may find answers here, but the short form is (and Forb already stated it): Uthgards target patch level is 1.65 (DAoC + Shrouded Isles + Foundations) - as close as possible to what Mythic once originally created. There aren't any plans on further developing the patch level, or any content beyond 1.65. There will however, be bugfixes and neccessary tweaks to secure server stability. If you find something, that doesn't belong in a patch 1.65 environment (like e.g., an item drop, which was introduced later) you can report it here, and if it gets validated by other players and the staff, it will get changed. So if you like to play the game at that certain patch level, welcome home friend. If you don't know what to expect because you aren't familiar with that era, just give it a try. If you want a Server that develops with time, to a point where artifacts, catacambs and new frontiers become reality, this may not be the place for you, but you are still invited to get to know the server and its player to get a different point of view. cheers!

Thanks for the link and info, very useful I'll definitely going to try Uthgard until I reach 50. Does determination affect melee based CC or only spells CC on this patch level? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Only castable cc. Stuns and snares from melee styles still receive full duration.
