Playstyle vs. Fun

Yes the rules are very clear - duels are not to be arranged, but because of the unwritten rules players can pick and choose if the duel is interrupted to then stop and rest till 100% hp and claim 'play-style' as the excuse.
This happens very often and is only happening because people are trying to keep these appearances as being super legit and fair when the reality is that this essentially becomes RP farming - because if you choose not to kill someone (assuming you know that you can win the fight which most high RR players can) simply because the fight was interrupted and/or they're your 'friend' or you know them from previous fights etc. then you're just waiting for the RP's to be at max (which, yes is smart) but now your 'play-style' is interfering with the adder's play style - this will either force that person to conform to these unwritten rules in order to have any kind of chance in fights in that particular area (AMG for the most part) - or re-roll so they can add and 1v1 at leisure in Thid where even if you add and die the two players still finish each other off and everybody gets some sort of RP's (even the loser of the initial 1v1 fight that was interrupted). So the only play style that should be allowed is kill the enemy... There should not be 5+ visible people standing around AMG and when a duo attacks one of them all 5 gank the duo etc. even if they're not all in the same realm. If an adder interrupts a so-called 'non-arranged' duel / 1v1 then that person gets bombarded by all the people watching plus the people engaged in the duel - this is co-op between realms and is against the rules but hey, it's their 'play-style' to have fair 1v1 fights at all cost. If this idea of 'play-styles' was removed and replaced with - "If you go to the frontier, you have to fight." - we would see less of this x-realming which is essentially leading to RP farming (incognito) because they don't see anything wrong with protecting the 1v1 fights and making sure they are 100% "FAIR". I mean there's tons of examples and I've seen this kind of thing go on over and over - enough that I decided every time to just re-roll and go to Thid over and over because at least everyone gets RP's in there. (if you are even a half decent player). |

I know what you are talking about DJLAZ, as I see that quite often at AMG. I would even agree that this can be discrouaging but remember its not always what it seems. I will give a quick example.
Dexx is in my guild on Hibernia. He joined it after me and him had countless fun battles with him on his merc and on his infiltrator. Now if I am fighting Dexx at AMG and another person add's into my fight I will drop my blades and back up. This is not so I can maximise my rp's and its not because he's in my guild on Hibernia. I do this because I have respect for him as a player. There has been countless times where the opposite occured to me and he gave me that same chance. Also, in this same example, if Dexx is the only player coming out to fight it doesnt do me much good to keep fighting him while 2 other players add in. All this does in encourage him to call it quits. Now I will not yell at the player for adding in, and on top of that if I have been fighting a player and another decides to add in then I would hope the player who added in could take the player I was fighting w/out my help since he is allready hurt. Now the above example, which has happend ALOT in my time is not an arranged duel. I could see where some would say that it goes against the spirit of the game, which I can see, but I see it as a way to encourage sustained action. If I go out to AMG on my ranger and get killed by 5 Mids or Albs, then I go and try it again w/ the same results, and finally a third time with the same results I'm going to quit going out there. The do unto others as you would have them do unto you is kind of how I play. If a person adds me from a different realm then I will add them. If they leave me be and honor my 1 vs 1 fights then I will do the same to them. I know that is not for everyone, and I would never tell other players that they need to play this way, but for me it works the best. That way if sombody asks why I added their fight I can simply reply that they added mine earlier. If sombody asks me why I didnt help them in a particular fight I simply reply that player always lets me live after a fight or honors my 1 vs 1 fights so why I would not do the same to him. I agree that I dont like it when you have 5 visi's standing around AMG and taking turns killing each other. It makes it for a very weird feeling, but I have no power over how others play the game. I only have power over what I do. I choose to play with the golden rule in mind and I do unto others as I would have them do unto me. |

Djaz one thing you didn't take into account was if there are two hibs at AMG and 1 alb comes out. Lets say by your opinion both hibs kill the alb. If I was the alb why would I come back. Now lets say 1 hib fights him and the other doesn't add. Win or lose at least the alb had a chance. Maybe he comes back. I have witnessed both and when the first scenario happens you may sit for hours with nothing to fight, this is no exaggeration ask any US player. So respect and earn rps, or add and get very little. I see your point but you are close minded and expect everyone on the server to play your way. Maybe during euro primerime your way works.

Don't get me wrong here, I completely understand that if you have a friend and you have a 1v1 (planned or not) its NOT okay to kill your friend if he is being added, yes go ahead and destroy the adder by all means I'm not against that, but where I start to disagree is that if you already engaged your friend since he is in another realm you should continue to fight AFTER the adder dies and allow everyone to have a fair chance of getting RP's.
How is this wrong on my part to want everybody to have a fair chance to gain realm ranks? Yes, this has happened to me, I've been added in a friendly 1v1 and I never stop after the adder dies and say, "Oh well, now we killed the adder lets both rest and re-try." Nope, I keep fighting - even if I'm low HP, if I win then great I get the adder's RP's + the '1v1' RP's if I lose, who cares I already got free RP's from a dumb adder... Even if I'm the one who is jumped - after the adder dies I try and still fight and kill the person who I started the fight with. People tend to stop and rest after this stuff happens and it starts to become this 'thing' people just do - and it encourages tons of people to stand around - I saw this happen a while ago when I tried out the Ipvp server a long long time ago and the GM's there went crazy banning people for several hours or days for x-realming because they understood this simple concept. I'm not saying these 1v1's are planned - but even if they are, once it turns into a bigger fight than you want it to be it should not give you the right to stop and rest after the adder is killed or wait till he releases etc. Yes some people might take that opportunity to run off and in that case you can't do anything about it, but the ones who just blatantly sit down in front of the enemy and are essentially under the 'protection' of them and the others around them until he/she is at 100% again are the cause of this problem. I don't know how else to explain it really... I think we're all logical people here and I want everybody to know I'm not trying to force people to play MY way - I want everybody to play FAIR and not play FAVORITE - this EXCLUDES a lot of people from YOUR version of what 'FUN' is supposed to be and it DOES kill the spirit of the game, and in my humble opinion it can be considered RP farming if done over and over again... (I'm not screaming btw just trying to emphasize ^^). This is also just an opinion guys - I'm not trying to call anybody out either - I'm sure things will stay the same for those of you who are really adamant about defending your current way of in-game life - I just think a lot of people have this same feeling as me and are just adapting their play-style into this mutated way of playing DAoC which really has taken away the feeling of the over all game play. I also feel that a lot of people stay silent and either re-roll or stop playing if they don't want to play that way. I know that this varies depending on when you play but even during prime-time it's happened. |

And no I'm not saying GANG up on soloers - It's common sense that if you want someone to continue to come out you will not just duo him over and over. Let's take your example for instance. 2 Hibs and 1 alb. If 1 Mid comes out of nowhere and adds and the Hib who was watching defends his realm mate - that's fine... If the Alb and the Hib who were in the 1v1 + the Hib who was watching all gang on the adder - that's fine too... Now if they all decide to sit down and chill after this happens, I don't think that's fine... If the Alb realizes that the fight is too much for him / her and runs off that's fine too - but it's not okay for everybody to sit next to each other and wait for the HP of one or both players to return. This becomes a habit and begins to evolve into this 'play-style' of if you're not with US then you're against US and we will defend our play-style against your play style even if you're a realm-mate. This divides everybody - but if the play-styles were all the same then everybody would be united for the single purpose of fighting the enemy - I'm not saying OMG EVERYBODY HAS TO KILL EVERYTHING AT ALL TIMES, just if you're going to engage an enemy you should then not be allowed to disengage them so blatantly just because you CHOOSE this play-style. Some people will say, well what's the difference if someone is not allowed to sit next to the enemy - well the difference is that they will not be under the enemy's protection... Which turns out to be the case in most cases and this evolves from a normal 1v1 to x-realming because people decide to be 'friends' with the other realm and kill anybody who tries to kill the person who is resting... All I'm saying is that if you're going to choose to fight then you need to finish the fight or the person can run away but should not be allowed to just sit there and be guarded by the enemy sometimes even MULTIPLE enemies will protect them if they 'respect' them for being a 'soloer' - What will happen is that people will disengage like normal but then be forced to retreat and hide, this encourages other players to follow them and fight them while they're vulnerable. If his realm mates are around then the realm mates can protect him as much as they want but it shouldn't become a co-op between enemy realms... I don't know if you guys can see what I'm trying to say but whatever this is just an opinion after all... Players should NOT be allowed to 'protect' the enemy player from a different enemy... |

I thought that was in the rules established a bit ago, that you had to move on and can't just sit around if you chose not to fight or disengaged the fight? I agree with the idea that people are allowed to play the way they want to, but I also agree that third realm cooperation to continue a fight 1v1 is not good.
Either way, the best solution is to find a friend or two and just blow up the whole area. If a 1v1 is engaged, and you are the of the third realm, treat it like you are fighting 2 enemies(which you are) and kill them both. If they are on your realm, kill the person that isn't your realm and leave it at that. If you die after a fight has already engaged, figure out how to not lose a fight that has a weakened player. If everyone in the area adds because of it, form a small man to blow it all to hell. They can play the way they want but you can play the way you want as well, and that can mean enjoying ruining their fun ![]() |

If this rule was established then a hell of a lot of people don't follow it that's for sure. At least not from what I've seen.

I appreciate that you're discussing the topic, but please don't litter your posts with remarks of how other players "suck" or are "tards".

Stop crying and play what you like, no one will care about it

omg DIJAZ, you really seem to have some serious problem...
I never arranged any duels, i never asked any1 not to add, but still I have no problem with such duels and I'm happy about the "play style" you hate so much...why? once you are "known" to be a "fair" player (fair in terms of not adding "balanced" fights), the usual rvr-players won't attack you on sight... in 8v8 this is no issue...either a grp adds or not, they won't stop adding just because of 1 player in it...however, I play solo very often and i'm really happy that so many ppl "don't add on me"...some don't even kill me, cause they know i'd have "no chance" and they could get RPs from it...there's for instance several BMs that don't attack me anymore, because charging down a solo-caster is just no real challange... and when there's a "duelling session" at amg...I don't add, why? because I prefer watching "balanced" (as far as they can be balanced) fights...and if I see a target i can actually kill (not a light-tank obviously ![]() to sum it up: the "play style" you flame so much enables solo-rvr and allows for "balanced" fights...if every1 played "red is dead" solo players wouldn't have any chance of playing how they wanted and even smallgrps would have hard times, cause all the 8v8 ppl would just kill them 3-4 times until they logged... ofc one might say "hey, ppl grp up and stop soloing"...but that would be forcing play style again, wouldn't it? while the "play style" you flame doesn't really force anyone (you have the choice: add and die, or don't add), the other play style would (you have NO choice: be attacked on sight and die) Genuine Spirit Cabalist since 2002

It's a Myth that action slows down if you zerg all.
It happens really often that those solos finally get the idea to form a small men and zerg back. Then you have real grps out instead of just some solos. If they dont like to grp well I dont care then I rather have them log out instead of hugging each other at amg ^^ American time might be different, but at EU times there is always someone to grp with. ![]() <<< This avatar is handmade by Inotor Wurzelbert : ) Check out the Mampfer-Threads for more. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25079 viewtopic.php?f=10&t=26934 |

^ this. DIJAZ: Uthgard's community is pretty small. Thus its a more familiar community instead of a faceless mass who doesn't know each other. Even in EU primetimes people show "respect" each other because there is no unlimited action. People get pis*ed off if they get ganked all the time and even on EU primetimes there is a high chance that enemies won't come back to the frontiers if this repeats all the time. Why? Because it is NO FUN to return. And then you're having fun afking at your porter keep. By the way this does not mean at all that you have to arrange duels! You want to play a real massive multiplayer rpg? Wether you support Uthgard and help to increase the population OR you get lost in GuildWars 2 or something like this instead of crying here. aylwynn warden

I'm sorry that you think I'm 'crying' - but I'm not - I simply do not have time right now for the 5 + hours it takes to get any decent amount of RP's with the current situation that is constantly happening - therefore, I choose to play GW2 for the 1.5 to maybe 2 hours I DO have free - but I figured I would explain my reason for not logging into DAoC in hopes that some people can see that MAYBE something should be done to allow players who have less time to 'get to know' the community and really want to enjoy RvR for what it is (and should be) and not this misconstrued idea that people have that you gotta stand @ AMG and /hug and /bow and /kiss every enemy in order to gain 'respect' that way you wont be ganked and can start getting 1v1 fights and then if you're high enough realm rank you can win a few of the 1v1's and gain RP's ... Well, I guess if you have time for this weird version of DAoC that's fantastic but I think you are excluding a HUGE amount of people by doing this and the community can grow a lot more if things are tweaked and slightly modified to better accommodate all types of players from the more casual to the more 'hardcore' gamers. If I'm giving off the impression that I am 'crying' somehow I apologize, I am really not - It's just one of those things that I really do hear a lot from the more casual players and those who I see in Thid a lot and people are really scared to get called QQ'ers and noobs etc. so they don't come out and say it but I have no problem with other people's criticisms or opinions - Like I said, I welcome them all, and as far as getting lost - well... If DAoC was any other game I probably would have been getting lost from it a long long time ago, but I have hope that one day it will be as Epic as it once was. I just haven't seen it yet - and the closest thing to it has been Thid sadly... And I die a lot in thid and I don't just quit because my intensive for coming back is knowing that even if I'm added I know that the adder will also attack the person who I was fighting and one of them is giving me RP's for sure. Or if I add, well I know that the two who were fighting are going to finish the fight and I'll get RP's again (for the most part) sometimes it doesn't work out but the action is so fast and so good that it wont bother me to die a few times because eventually I'll get a kill or two and that's enough of a reward to come back again. I'm not pro-mindless RP gaining which is why I don't make buddies with everybody to keep myself challenged but challenge and just plain 'UNFAIRNESS' are two very different sides of the spectrum, for me at least... Lets just say that if people want to play DAoC they will not just log after dying three or four times - especially if even if they die they get some sort of RP's for it - it might not be a LOT but it's enough to make people feel like they are not wasting 5 hours, which can some times be the case on Uthgard.... And the reason I'm bringing up RP's a lot is not because I want to mindlessly get RP's like a machine, I just like seeing 5k or maybe 7k for my efforts instead of 700 rp's ... Lol I don't want rr10 over night because what's the fun in that? Then I'll get bored and re-roll ![]() |
