i bee happy to see horse route gone and have 15 minutes port timer, just like in old classic :P

They lowered the timer and introduced horse route to compensate for that but its a poor compensation that gives mids/albs a upperhand when jumping someone on horse (read free rps). I can give 5 better solutions just on spot but so far the staff dosnt seem to listen to constructive criticism / alternative solutions in this subject so i wont bother trying anymore.

You should make the other frontier horse routes the same distance, and cut off in the second zones. If we ever did get people to start using other zones, the other two would have an un-fair advantage on there routes to travel farther. But all hibs will have to come that way any ways, so instead of being on a horse, youl be on foot. Emain is just a bad design, but because of that, it draws all the rvr. One reason is because the first gate that is past is one gate, unlike the other frontiers where they are about equaly appart. If we removed emain and seen what zone everyone went to, ether albs or mids. It would be balanced as they both have the same distance to each gate and no one would get to ether sooner to build up expected traffic.

Just look at Cathal Valley, i remember reading some where, it was suppose to remind players of Old Frontier or something. Not sure if that is true, but as a BG. Anyway, if it was, they did not make the mistake of emain in it. You can see that every gate for each realm is equaly appart. If you make one just enough closer, like how you enter emain and have one gate closer, it will cause problems and focus everyones rvr in just that spot. Hopefully there will be some kind of revamp to rvr on uthgard to address the emain issue. If its possible.

What i ment was that it draws all the players there, because people get lazy and want to know exactly where to go to get kills. Emain = Alb gate. Why alb gate. Well because albs can teleport there, mids just have to teleport and travel down ward and hibs just have to enter emain and they are right there ( about right there ). If you checked to see where the majority of the kills come from, it would be mostly alb gate or around alb gate in emain.

That is the poor design, because such repeat actions get boring and mass camping is all you will get. Also makes trouble for small grps and solo fighters, who are forced to other zones which have almost no population. Most , if not all rvr zones made after that design where more balanced, like agramon having two gates on each side. Same with distance from each others gate.

The only ones who benifit from emains design, would be groups i would guess, as they got the numbers to deal with small grps/ soloers/ stealthers, that are camping at the gate. While the group really only needs to camp alb gate or run between each. The only reason they may not see a grp is because the others are waiting on port or other grp went to open DF. But while there is grps in emain, it isnt hard to find your enemy, just sit at the gate, they will always be traveling to alb gate.

But the server is made up of more then just full groups. And even full groups may have trouble, when facing two full groups, as its not hard to happen. 2 groups in emain have a good chance to run into an enemy grp in emain at the same time, or a little after one group is finished fighting the other.

Some players like to gain all the RPs they can, then enjoy some small man / solo RvRing at a high rank. So before they get to that point, they ask for instent ports and simple RvR, like emain to make it possible. But when they get to a high rank and try to solo or small man, they face the terrible design of are rvr in the OF. Then you start seeing more in DF, and people asking to leave soloers alone and dont kill them, if your in a group.

Yes its hard to find the best Solution for that. But for Hibs its really sad to play 40min from 60 min = 20min walking/riding time!
Its all pros and cons :o

Guess ill chime in.

This is a reason some ppl want nf back, cause it is a lot more friendly for the casual players and zergs are easier to form and maintain. I can remember a few times back in the day all 3 realms having 3 port keeps in the same area of some poor realms frontier, so casual players could just port in at thier leasure which turned it into like 2min of walking to get into fights and if you die np just insta port back there again. Really I am just in the camp of thinking Nf>Of and wanted to share why, in old frontier if you die can't insta port back to the area which leads to things like what happend at the zerg event, was ton of fun for the huge 100v100v100 battle but took like 20min to oraganize with the fights lasting maybe 5min without the ability to rematch because it would take too long to reorganize and port back to the area. In nf you can form up the zerg in 5min by saying to your realm "Port to Bledicrimnbeno keep", and then can be rdy to move in like 2min if you are fast, and the fight won't be far away because all the keeps and towers have a purpose.

As I see it in Of now, pretty much the best high rr group that is out controls alb gate in emain now for lack of having better things to do/take as in Nf where there are plenty of targets at all times for groups and casual players to hit. For the people argueing it wouldn't be classic anymore I think the classes make it classic more then the map, but as far as my personal fun rateing goes i give Of about 5/10, and nf about 7 or 8/10, donno when they released Nf they fixed a lot of things for casual players to have more fun, like boats instead of horses hehe :) I realize its a huge descision but jst wanted to add my 2c for those who care. I prefer the relic raids to take days(Nf) over hours(Of) cause it makes the war a lot more fun. Instead of ("Don't add in my 8v8!111" :wall: like we have now hehe Nf gets you involved as a realm L33tzor groups don't mind so much if you scrape 2rps off a fight because the next one could come at any time and or be 50ppl.) I have a lot of fun on the server reguardless though and am glad it is here, great community overall. Basically what we need to get ppl out of the bgs is more zerg so the realm leaders can better get the casual players involved on all 3 sides (why would I want to sit in thid when 50 people want me to come help take keeps? /rant off, have fun everyone! :gaga:

Well duuuh, how is that in any way ANY sort of argument or justifaction for the altered horse route?
And btw, Hibs spend a looot more time walking/riding than mids or albs to emain. I won't get into the disadvantages of running to Emain because that is not what the topic is about. I'm not even complaining about how frustrating and ineffective attackable horse routes are for the playerbase because yet again that is not what the topic is about. But with a shorter horse route Hib solo/smallman/casual players spend MUCH more time than albs and mids who simply wait on the pad AND albs and mids who want to RVR in the tertiary zone of their OWN REALM FRONTIER. It makes no rational sense that one realm's would not be the same as the others if you are a staff that looks to promote equality among the realms.

BTW people, STOP ASKING FOR NF. The GMs are putting a lot of effort into OF and making it better (I'm hoping) and all these silly whines about getting NF back are getting us nowhere and simply give the GM staff more reason to ignore the requests of the playerbase via the forums.

Back in the days it was possible to rush into enemys telekeep and kill a punch of players before getting killed. But on uth all telekeeps seem to be the safest place for going afk etc...

While NF has some advantages, this is a CLASSIC server. There are plenty of other servers, including freeshards, where you can play NF style. Having said that, OF RvR here does need work. The management team, who works on this server for free, has done an outstanding job providing us with a Classic DAoC experience. Having read through the many suggestions in this thread, the most balanced solution would be adding non-instant port necklaces whereby a toon can port to any friendly keep. This would help spread out the RvR action, make keep offense/defense more fun, and alleviate the current Emain clusterbleep.

better stop asking for custom changes in OF
1. fact is : all people who begs for custom changes in OF are not happy with OF atm.. but custom changes are no way to improve OF and its not livelike too..
Ok you all wanted OF. now you have it! then play it like it is! i never want it and many people too.
all people they cry for custom changes are not better then players who wants back NF!
2. No single custom change can make OF attractive like NF.
no bonus makes it attractive, better lvl spots dont make it attractive... and no instant port can change anything in OF.. It stays OF.
Nothing brings back the fun from NF.
shure.. there were some custom changes in NF too.. but i can live without them :)

The GMs are putting a lot of effort into OF and making it better

BTW the staff and the gms made excellent work to improve NF too... then they throw away the hard work for a zone that is totally unattractive and not flexible for really good RVR.
imho the whole OF story was a challenge for the staff and the worldbuilder.. but not for the players.

I dont understand the discussion about NF.

Uthgard claims to be a pre-ToA server. This is currently not true but at least the staff works on it. If you want NF setting, you can play on the live servers. There are even this "classic" servers without ToA for these people, who hated it.
