The problem is Thid:
|
Exactly because of this reason. Classic DAoC isn't Thid at 49 with a fullcap temp, it's end RvR. However the only way to kick the elitist and maximised way of thinking out of the box is to makeend RvR the only option for players to get RPs and a GREAT option to get XP at lvl 36+. Why whould you want to risk going out as such a low character? - Very Serious XP bonusses for killing enemies. - Serious XP bonusses for xping in OF. This helps you get stronger and stronger to the point where YOU will be the hunter instead of the hunted. BGs should be a pre-taste of RvR, not a full alternative. |

^^ this. |

I thought the original BGs were fantastic. Caledonie was great, and because you couldn't stay there forever, the amount of perma-twinks was almost 0. Just people meeting in PvP on there way to 50.

If anything I wish the battlegrounds had special caps in place to prevent that sort of alt-toon-noob-gank-twinking nonsense. Cap all stats/resists/skills at an easily achievable level. Increase the enjoyment of new players, and reduce the number of twinked out "vanity-alts" that only play for their ego.

I may speak for the rare uthgardiens only knowing DAoC from Uthgard and atm this games feels one hell of non-rewarding to me if you have no grps and no guild or alliance, especially as visible solo char. You wont even get sufficent support in getting equipment, spellcrafts, etc.
I had two or three high toons, lvled them for thid (and for each the previous Bgs), tried NF, now OF, and forgot about quite instantly. I forgot to cap one toon at thid, and end RvR was even more hell. To me, every cry for more people in frontiers feels literaly offending to me, as I feel just reduced to fast and free RP. I dont know if zerging is the real answer to this, ever have seen how many players a small grp with zubasa can take out? Now, I'm somehow glad, he's "on my side", but there are high RR and very skilled players on every realm, that will make appear poor flammen vakten like a shy grey viking. In short, I gave up end RvR in totally, as long as there isnt any "real" RvR activity like tower or relic raids instead of just predictable RP farming at gates without any realm wide output. |

Guess why they removed port times on live a long long long long time ago? This might be one of the bigger issues with OF on Uthgard ... You got OF but you have to wait quite some time all the time. It's not like people love being logged in for 4 hours but being able to play actively for maybe only 1 hour. It's not that you've got only teens and pupils on Uthgard that got time all day long, I guess most players here got a job, family life and other time consuming stuff, so why standing around waiting for something when you can have the almost same fun without wasting your time?
My thoughts about ... |

Well you need basic guilds, gear, skill to compete in end RvR, that's true simply because you enemy has all those and you can be sure of that these days since you can cap your thid char, max it up and join a guild. Voila there u go, you're ready to be free RPs without any experience in actually playing with real tactics, without actually staying alive in such a vast landscape, without waiting to inc instead of blatantly charging ahead as you are used to in BGs. Since that's what happens to most of those newer players, especially without a guild let alone without a group. On top of that they will be regarded as 'noobs' who don't know what they need to know and therefore return to the cosy BGs where they do not need to go through all the fuss that is end RvR. However, when you combine end-RvR with character progression in a much earlier stage, lvl 36+ for instance, you will get a lot more experience, you will get to meet people who you XP and fight orther xpers with in OF (without having to try pushing yourself into guild grps by using /lfg at lvl 50 rr 4L2), experiencing what end RvR and OF is all about even before you are 'supposed' to stand a chance, giving you more feeling and experience about OF you can ever gain from toying around in BGs. In fact, you can compare BGs to skirmish sparring matches. They're rather easy, they don't hurt (instant respawn), they give you a taste of what enemy players are like, ... All this whereas OF would mean fighting your enemy to the death. If you die, you'll feel it. If you run out, you run out to kill. I'm not saying port timers should be as long as they were, probably not as long as they are at the moment, but already OF is way bigger and timeconsuming than any BG ever is and was. |

id like to edit this:
Again, the problem is simple: Pointless timesinks aren't fun. People like fun. 1+1=2 therefore, people will avoid pointless timesinks. Remove the timesink and suddenly, people will RvR again. |
|
Thats easy. They introduced NF with a different porting system (supply chain) and they had one big RvR zone for all instead of 3.
Such time sinks are death penalties. Else you could bind on any location and release where you died. It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

Wrong. He was talking about the port timer, not the fact that you can only bind at specific spots. (which doesn't mean I agree with that, instant port timers just aren't the solution imo, shorter timers would be welcome tho) @Keyz, yea, that's what I was saying implicitely. ![]() |

I was talking about the port timer too.

/rp off still be cool.
the folks that just dont want to do 50 rvr OR dont find a group and/or just plainy prefer BG over 50 rvr just DONT WANT TO JOIN 50 rvr^^ and you cant force them. and you shouldnt! i love playing nightshade. i hate playing a 50 nighshade. or a warden. good fun in bgs. not so much later on. or a friar. rofl char in bgs. reduced to solo pve farmer once 50. same with my valewalker. soooooooooo much fun getting there and once 50, i pretty much stopped playing it - without a strong guild where you can have a regular place or a lot of time, getting a rvr group with a vale... well. and with my hero now 50 i only log it to make some potions these days. just plain sucks. you cant imagine how much i want a permanent bg ns to have a holiday toon from the rest of the game. there are a lot of chars in all realms id like to play. just not as lvl 50 chars. that is more like... two. maybe 3. hero warrior and ranger. and the ranger is debateable. the line i often read when it comes to /rp off is always the same: unfair to the new guys, sced specialized bg toons overpower them. guess what, most players who use the bgs extensivly / to level HAVE sc anyway. i know my ranger was wearing its sc with lvl 32. almost every solo char i fought since im lvl 28 was wearing a sc. most of the group chars too. usually the mages and supps run around with sup par gear since they dont depend on it duriing exping and level out too fast anyway. the getting forced out, that is about the only thing i hate about bgs. yes i enjoy 50 rvr with my hero if i have enough time to make it worthwhile and get a group. but im only loggin it if LFG looks for it. i dont see much benefit of sitting around waiting for a group or trying to build one wihtout a single bard or druid available. BGs are nice quick fun. log in, have some action, log out. on the other hand, i have less playtime for my 50 rvr char since i have to keep grinding with my lower chars due to hitting rp caps and headed toward 50 forcefully. a char that is not 50 and cant enter a bg is pretty much useless to have. you can make it a bonus for long time players, sell a voucher that lets you turn rp gain on/off for 50plat in the borderkeep^^ i would pay that. the player mentality shiftes once 50. even with 49.99 you just make sure you have speed and a bit healing and rush out, have fights and have fun. once your 50, if you dont fit a specific profile or know some folk, your pretty much wasting your time with that char. thumbs down to the bg haters. vote for /rp off. and agramon still was the worst zone ever to be implemented in daoc. |
|
If no other change will come to help soloers out, then I vote for /rp off too.
