If you want to know who's around in a zone, request a scout to provide you some intel. If none are around then you go out there and run around till you find something. If you dont see someone, go take a keep and start some commotion Then people might show up to defend it or look for you. That's how the game is supposed to be played.

I see no problem in that. You can always say that you are still in emain but its forbidden to say, lets meet at hill xy or AMG. There should be no precise location given in IRC.

I hope you understand that by saying this, that opens the can of worms where people can know who is in a particular zone. That defeats the entire purpose of finding your enemies and "surprise" encounter. I'd still think that this is arranged fighting, but minus precise locations since you will know who your opponents are. Furthermore it's counter intuitive to making use of stealthers and scouts. Why ask for a stealther intel report when you can just go on irc and ask who is running around the zone?!!!!

You do realize that people on live played stealthers (sometimes other classes as well) and use them to report enemy positions right???

If you do not think ther is a problem with that i'd like to see your vision of what RvR should be like. What I get out of what you' are finding acceptable to do is something to the tune of fighting in the ye old medieval days where opposings sides would announce to one another where they are, set the battlefield and date, then bring their zergs (err i mean armies) to the field and duke it out in one huge pitch battle. Is that your vision? Huge zergs fighting at alb main gate after everyone announces that they are in the zone? If we're doing that, then why not just put everyone in a bg and let them duke it out 24/7?

In my opinion people shouldnt even be allowed in the main channel of the irc while they're logged into the game. I guess it would be ok to keep a GM service channel open if people are having problems but other than that, no. If they want to cross realm/cheat/arrange fights then dont make it easier for them to do so by providing the service and a pat on the back telling them that they can do it!


It sickens me that i wasted so much time trying to do "realm duties" like scouting and reporting enemies and then some one comes into the irc and talks about who is in the zone and running around. It bothers me even more when i see people telling other people where I AM! while using irc. About a year ago a member of an enemy realm pmed me in IRC requesting that I stop telling people (my realm mates) where their group was heading all the time, since according to them, they were tired of all the hib full groups chasing them down since they were made aware of the presence and location of midgard players (obviously iw as doing my job well.)

The question is, how did this person know i was doing that? Obvious answer: He was INFORMED by someone using uthgard irc! They told me so themself!!! I've got other instances of things like this from people whom i can quote from chat logs if need be but i wont do that here yet. I just want to show you how much of a problem this kind of stuff is here and I think that it is HIGHLY inappropriate to be recommending to allow such behaviors to become legitimized.



But hey you're the boss. Do whatever you want. Just dont be surprised when people start abusing it like they are already doing.

This is completely unreasonable, not to mention not in line with the staffs treatment of realm info on the forums, where even saying "I'm going to Hadrians now" was said by staff members and moderators to be a bannable offense.

So now I have to be on IRC to get the most up-to-date info on the game? How is that "Classic"?

This is by far the WORST and least thought-out statement the staff has ever made since I started playing on this server, you are solving the problems OF has in the worst way possible: by an out-of-game mechanic.

I can't even believe I read this, this speaks of a total loss of direction for the server.

Basically what I've said is no free joker for any type of RvR informations in IRC. I just want to make clear that the information that somebody is in RvR at all is unprecise enough but if the zone information (like "we are still in emain") is too much I've said nothing. The rule is to use the game to find your enemies without out-of-game chat channels to your enemies.

Nymeros: Calm down. RvR informations in IRC are still forbidden as its written in the IRC rules! I'm not the staff, I have personal opinions which dont have to always match the staff ones.

Blue, on IRC everyone knows everyone's characters, and therefore the realm they play, so they know through which gate you will inc. And the only RvR zone is Emain, so pretending that it's ok because no zone name is explicitly mentioned really doesn't make sense.

RvR information of any kind does not belong in IRC, that is a very dangerous road to go down on.


P.S. I think many people would take your words as official staff policy, especially in this instance.

People on live didnt have the luxury of knowing who was logged in at all, unless they used additional accounts to cross realm spy!

Do you recall there being a public irc available from mythic for all players while they were logged into the game which also let them notify other people on their server that they were logged in to go rvr? I surely don't think that there was such a thing, at least not in the u.s servers!

So you would consider the message "I'm in RvR now" as too much? You cant ban that.

Zippity: An example for IRC channel was #daoc-de, there were Server related channels too.

Again to make that clear: I'm against RvR informations in IRC at all. Dont get me wrong. I just didnt see the problem to make a statement that somebody is still out there in the RvR zone.

Why not? And even if you can't, it doesn't have to be encouraged either IMO.

People shouldnt even be allowed to log into the irc while playing in game. Very rarily is there any good that comes out of being logged in to irc and the game at the same time on this server. If you read the irc logs, you will see that its full of "stfu tell your newb group to stop adding" or "lets have e-sex baby!" or "come on to emain guys we're out here waiting!" or "we pwned you guys so hard haha!"

There is the occasional newbie that comes in asking for help but those people usually cant even get the game started, which is why they're there to begin with. Other than that, its usually garbage like the above.

If they do it some place else, then thats out of your control. What i'm saying (and apparently Nymeros also) is that you dont have to provide the medium to do this and pat on the back to encourage this behavior.

The reason they're related is because a highly active element of this server has a culture of cross realming where people think its ok to do this, and what you see in irc is the manifested acceptance of this behavior across a significant portion of the active players in the level 50 rvr arena. People are just so brazen about it that they go into irc and discuss it openly. My advice is, kill the ability to cross realm as easy as people can do so and you will deal with the culture and that will make this problem have a LOT less people involved in it than it does now. Right now every joe blow and his mom treats the game like if its guild wars and dueling and not realm vs realm! The minority currently seem to be the people who actually want to play the game as it was intended!

well zipp i dont need the irc chan to comunicate with each other if i want to

played with alot of xreamers ig so i have them in icq msn xfire what ever msgers. its simply not worth to ban it. i think something like hey we are still out there we just needed to wait couz xy mother came in and cut his internet and needed to find a replacement is not banable. as its not excatly sayn where or ? could be even in xmas zone or whatever bg lvl or? I think its more like others shouldnt say where you are but if you offer that info by your self its no problem as long you dont say x y z coords.
