With OF and the old BGs there were classic lvl up quests.

1. Taking a BG's keep and maxing out Rps gained you a metal of valur for that BG.

2. Mercant keeps could be done 2 times the exact lvls I am not sure but I always did them @lvl 36 to get 37 and 42 to get 43.

BATTLEGROUND NOTES

Version 1.60 has a couple of large changes to the battleground system. The intent of these changes is to get more players involved in RvR at lower levels by incenting them with experience points. There are two major parts of these additions: we've added a new lower-level battleground for those players levels 15-19, and now you can gain lots of experience by completing each Battleground.

Experience for Battlegrounds

We've added a system for experience rewards for completing each battleground. Basically, when you complete a battleground, you can go to a new special NPC that will give you a medal. That medal can be taken to another new NPC and turned in for a significant amount of experience points.

To complete a battleground, you must achieve three objectives (note that only the keep raid must take place in the Battleground, the rest can be achieved in standard RvR):

1. Participating and living through a successful raid on a central keep that has been held by the enemy for at least 45 minutes

2. Being at the realm point cap for that battleground

3. Being in the level range for the battleground, plus one level.

Please note that the realm points need not all be earned in the battleground - they can be gained in standard RvR as well. Once players have participated in a keep raid and reached the required Realm Point level, players go to a new NPC in their home city and receive their medal of valor.

You can only receive the medal for a battleground if you are within the level range for that specific battleground, plus one level. For instance, you can only receive the Thidranki medal if you are between 20 and 25.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MAXIMUM RP FOR EACH BATTLEGROUND REMAINS UNCHANGED. IF YOU EARN MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM RP ALLOWED IN A PARTICULAR BATTLEGROUND AND YOU HAVE NOT YET TAKEN THE CENTRAL KEEP, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER THAT BATTLEGROUND, AND THUS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET YOUR MEDAL OF VALOR.

Medal NPCs

Camelot: Commander Kise can be found on the porch of his house by The Mug.

Jordheim: Ostaden who is repairing his equipment at the local smithy.

TirNaNog: Mobryn who resides in a house near the Chamber of Arms.

After receiving the medal, players may turn in the medal and receive a substantial experience reward. Please note that battleground medals must be used within one level of the level cap for a battleground. For example, you can turn in the medal and receive the experience reward for Thidranki at 25 but not at 26 or above. You can only turn in one medal per battleground.

Battlefield Experience NPCs

Camelot: Sir Dinairak is in the royal library.

Jordheim: Aiesill is in the great hall.

TirNaNog: Rheollyn is in the palace courtyard.

New Low-Level Battleground

Additionally, a new battleground, Abermenai, has been opened for players to get their very first taste of RVR action at an earlier level. Characters can enter Abermenai if they are level 15-19. The realm point cap for this battleground is lower than Thidranki(125), but high enough so that players can purchase their first realm abilities at an earlier level.

Well you're right. Those are incentives to get people out of the bgs as well as to help them progress their character. What i proposed in the previous page was to use that along with various other schemes to get people able and willing to progress their character development in the PvM environment and then carry on and continue it to the rvr environment.

I think the bgs are a big problem with this but the level 50 rvr situation is not conducive to encourage people to play. There are a lot of interconnected problems (cross realming, high realm rank, need to have specialized group setups) that make it not very appealing to anyone to participate out there. I criticize the staff for having tended to take an approach of "change the map" or "change the bonuses" in just about all the cases over the years without looking at what motivates people to not play or to play in a particular manner. I am unapologetic as I feel that If I consistantly made such big goofs as this then I hope people would be just as critical of me. I dont know what metrics they use to come to these conclusions but we keep discussing the same problem over and over again and using the same types of solutions to address it and hailing each new change as a "big success." When i think of these, the imagery of "mission accomplished" surrounding a certain u.s president comes to mind. It should be apparant by now that a new way of thinking is needed.

Some of the players have proposed far more inventive and imaginative approaches to dealing with these issues than what i've seen actually been attempted here. Could I do better if i was in charge? I dont know, but I sure would be trying all sorts of different approaches and not variations of the same tried and failed concepts of the past but I guess it depends on how you measure success. If your vision of success means having a server population of 500 but 20 are rvring, then you've got your success.
If your goal is having a rvr population of 100 then you should ask your self tough questions about why are only 20 rvring and 480 preferring to remain behind the border keep and playing bgs or leveling alternate characters or just staying for a short time and leaving all together.

Excellent posts on the previous page Zippity, I urge the staff to read it also.

I just want to add that SOME change is desperately needed, I for one believe NF is superior, but again, even customizing OF would help a lot.

And to be fair, I have to say that Blue had a lot of very good suggestions himself in the Old OF topic (agreeing to the RP bonus to Odins to make it a solo zone, secondary port 30sec later, horse routes). It just seems that nothing is being done to implement them for some reason (internal staff disagreements maybe?).

Got an idea how to make the transfer more comfortable for the hibs:
Summonable NPC's that walk the path up to Breifine and can be sticked.
If this works, maybe the port timers can be reduced a bit.

The problem is how fast do they run ? Casterspeed? Speed 5? Speed 5 + endurun?
Another problem is the enemy knows exactly where Hibs are travelling.

As fast as hastener speed, or better 1 unit slower to compensate lags.
This stick npc could be a guard, so its an advantage for the hib if an enemy is luring on the path and attacks.
Or even a very very strong guard, so the player can even go afk while sticking.
The path should end somewhere in Breifine, not further.

put in combat = dropped off horse

@Zippity:
I wonder why you propose the remove of all BG's above level 35. There are some player types who like the ease of leveling (10x XP) in a BG.
I consider Thidranki a major step to bring players in competable ranges like RR4 and Level 50.

As we didnt have Thidranki up to level 49 and RR4 I can tell you that there was a big block of stuck players at the end level of the BG (around level 46 if I remember correctly). They were not willing to go into big RvR as food or proceed leveling to 50. Would you enter the endgame RvR with RR2? So Thidranki up to level 49 and RR4 was a positive step as it increased the RvR numbers in the endgame.
It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

The fear of being food for fodder for level 50s is a valid one but ill say this, With guard tasks now there is no real need to add a bg for that realm rank range. You can achieve rr 4 easily enough on guard tasks. I used to run around towers when the server used nf and i saw quite a few level 30ish-40 players doing guard missions. Its not like the old days on live where there was No alternative for realm points after you left caledonia except to go rvr in emain or kill levelers in the frontier or dodens etc. I'll have to say that the tasks are something that I think were a pretty good idea and hits at the target group that needs this type of thing (lower rr players). I'd actually recommend that more attention be given to making people aware of task giver npcs.

If you want to get people out of the bgs then you need to offer them some major incentives to not use them to begin with in my opinion. To get people motivated to continue progressing their characters or to not give up on playing level 50 rvr then you need to agaain offer some major incentives to not log out or give up. Simply throwing bonuses into a zone doesnt do anything by itself. You have to target the groups of players that have a particular problem. In this case, people have a serious problem with character progression at varying stages with the first issues coming in the leveling of the character and getting it to 50 without being held back in the bgs.

The second being once you hit 50 you realize you cant fight the rr 8-10 groups out there but you face a poor community (see the cross realming issue) and on top of that a practical reality that you cant win vs rr 10 players when you're rr4 unless you get a big zerg together. WHen you get more 'zerging" going on you get less realm points per kill. The voucher system that i proposed would give you significant bonuses to rps earned thus when you do make kills, you get more for it and that lets you advance your lower rr char up to become competative. I feel that if people know that they have SOMETHING positive going for them then they would be less likely to log out or give up and go back to the bgs. On the plus side, the more people that are out there using their vouchrs/rewards would mean the more likely condition that you run into groups of similar stature as yourself, thus making the combat more even.

If you want to make the play environment better for new players and to promote actual RvR instead of arranged Duel vs arranged Duel play styles, then you also need to get a grip on the cross realming epidemic on this server. When every time you engage in a fight you have to be concerned about someone getting mad over "adding," or not coming to assist you because they dont want to fight their friends who are playing characters on the other realm and all that nonsense that goes along with it then that means something is seriously wrong with that picture.

The best way to get more activity is :

RPs on DF mobs

Something like 50rps/mob starting on Red con at 50 and increasing with lvl of mob, will give more interest for DF, so more activity on frontiers and keeps fights.

Actually groups of 40+ are forming to get a keep to open DF and go XP in DF.If you do that lvl 50 will go to take keep too. This will never be an easy RR lvling. It would be fine for casuals and a kind of help for low RR,or activity during downtime. For example if you kill 1 succubus per minute you will get 3000rp/h.You do the same for 3 solo kill in rvr.So many people will farm till RR5/6 but will be too long after and then move to frontiers to get rps cause their chars are stronger. You will take more time to go 10L by farming than pvping.THIS CAN'T KILL RVR
If you're not OK with this you're not OK with realm task too!

It will stop the Emain camping too.Because if emain is camped ,people will move to alb or mid to take keeps,so Emain camper will split on each realm and there will be 2/3 stealther/gate instead on 1fg on emain amg====>increase interest for solo and small grp.

If you take a minute to ponder about it,there's not a lot of mobs >red con in DF (succubus,mahr,nightmare...).So can't be a massive realm farm in DF.And if too much people of the realm in DF,no one to defend keep in frontiers and easy to open DF and zerg in.

Advantages:
-More RVR activity on keeps(instead of actual pvp/gvg/ zerg in Emain)
-More activity on each frontiers
-More activity for solo/small grp
-More Pvp in DF (because DF will change realm more often)
-Less frustrated low RR /casuals player because they got an alternative
-More decent RR soon and so==>more people in RvR soon too.

This is the only and the best solution to resolve the actual RvR problem imo.

That's the dumbest suggestion i've ever read. Sadly it's not the first time I read stuff like this. :/
There are so much mmo's where you can PvE all day long and it never ends. But DaoC isn't like that. It's about PvP my dear fellow...

Blue, are there any news on the stuff you talked about in the old OF thread (Odins solo bonus, horse routes, etc)?
