I just stumbled upon this server and now I'm rly curious. It seems like you guys keep Daoc alive as it used to be in the good old days No MMO ever fascinated me as much as Daoc did pre ToA gimpage.

I had several RR8x characters a few years ago and new I'm thinking of rerolling on this server.
Is it worth dumping SWTOR for it? How is the population? How is the RvR? Are buffbots still working?
Which realm is the underdog? (As I rly enjoy playing as underdog)

I appreciate your help and I'm looking forward to see you in the frontiers

Anyyyway, a brief answer to your questions:

Population has declined of late, probably due to other games, summer and some more server-related issues (lack of dev progress, time sinks, etc). There are still 500 or so people playing at EU prime time, but not a whole lot of those engage in lvl 50 RvR. Prime time RvR in general is dominated by a few strong, high RR guild groups that battle it out in Emain + stealthers camping mile gates. A lot of the servers population seems to twink and stay in the battlegrounds or guard task away (a PvE activity that gives RPs...).

I don't think there is a *real* underdog realm and with no realm restrictions many people play in 2 or all 3 realms anyway. Albion prolly has the hardest time in RvR just because it is so much harder to build PUGs there. But in general, realm choice will not affect your ability to enjoy the game.

There are no buffbots on Uthgard, using one will get you banned.

It worths trying.
Mid is overpopulated atm.
Pop was really higher earlier this year. Something like 1000 players in the evening. It has dropped to 400-450 and now seems to increase a little again.

I saw it a bit different recently. Of 600+ players in EU prime time there were surprisingly 190+ in the frontiers. Uthgard surely took a hit by D3, SWTOR and GW2 beta but DAoC will survive them all Underpopulated in OF are Hibs. Strongest are Mids. But that can change weekly.
What you write Lasastard sounds more like a repetition of what is written here the last years by the pessimists.

Ywain cost money to play and the game is nothing that resembles the DAoC you will remember from when you played.

I think Uthgard is a better choice for a person coming back from a long absence.

You must understand the difference. Uthgard is a bit harder (as it targets standard classic DAoC) but our community is strong. On live they changed the game a lot. I would suggest try Uthgard first as its free. Once you get to battlegrounds you can start doing RvR and you will get 10x XP per kill. Use /lfg command to find groups to level.

you are probably right - I excessively played daoc for 3 years in OF - but got dissappointed big time when ToA was released, which was the reason why I left the game afte rall. I like a challenge which the classic game mode brings to the table

haha as I said - I'm up for a challenge that's why I thought of a NS )
PS: I usually played CC / support classes (had a RR8+ Bard and almost RR9 Sorc a few years back)

we don't need more stealth classes

if you want a challenge roll a visi

If you want to play solo, roll a stealther.
If you want to play Hib, choose BM/ Druid, Alb Cleric/Merc, Mid Zerker/Healer
since those are most needed in grp rvr.
And Lasa summed it up pretty well.
It s luck dependent atm if there is action or not, yesterday we didnt build a grp since no other grps were out. Then there are other days with plenty of action. Pretty random atm.

Shall we just agree that I actually actively play the game and don't look at it as a collection of numbers and stats from a database? Well, not as actively as I used to, granted. But if there are 190 people in the frontiers, I would really like to know where they are, because if you pay attention to the killspam or just plain count the number of visible enemies you come across in Emain, that rarely ever adds up to more than maybe 50. Add 20 stealthers to that, a few people xping their twinks somewhere in the middle of nowhere. That would leave over 100 people guard tasking? And don't say that is not so, not too long ago we came across a 16 slot Mid 'group' including rr11 players that where doing just that in hadrians. Killing yellow mobs for RPs. If that is not a sign that something is seriously wrong, then I just don't know.

And you may call this pessimism, but the day people stop complaining about these things, is when Uthgard is either perfect or when they have given up hope that it will actually ever fulfill its potential.
