Howdy All,
Like 99% of you, i'm a longtime DAOC vet. I mained a Scout on Gareth for a few years and quite enjoyed playing it. The archery "changes" killed it for me so I was excited to see Uthgard was using the old archery system. However, I am reading conflicting testimonials about the effectiveness of Archery in 1.65. I understand the RA issue with Archers being easy picking for assassin classes. I hardly expected to run solo as a scout anyway so this isn't as big of a killer for me. But talk of bow damage is pretty mixed. I hear that Bow dmg is fine and its only low because there are a lack of buffbots. I find this odd since there is also a lack of defensive buffs on your target as well. With Uthgard holding a significant population, hopefully RvR wont be just 8mans and there will be actual zergs and warfare. That or stealthwarz, I'm so used to New Frontiers it will take me a while to adapt. I even spoke to a lvl 20 scout in SCed gear that was having issues soloing blues. Not sure if he was just fail/Autotraining or bow damage really is that borked. Im asking for anyone who played an archer class in the beta to leave some feedback. I played a Ranger most of the beta. High pathfinding for buff and bow for range effectiveness. I was quite gimpy in melee because of it but understood.
Using just the free DF gear I typically had crits for around 400 and 200 for regular shots. I had max damage/speed RAs. It was a tough killing anyone one on one. The best chance was to leach of battles or catch someone healing up off a battle. Camo worked pretty well as did True Sight every 30 min. My feeling is archers are pretty weak at this patch level but maybe if there is a target rich environment and you have patience you might be able to find a kill every now and then. |
