I decided to test for myself how weapon spec actually affects damage/dps of both styled and non-styled damage for my ranger.

The test was using an rr6 ranger and only 1 pierce weapon (MP 3.5sp) against the lv 50 practice dummy. I used the lv 40 path str & d/q buff only. I had 211 str & 273 dex at the time of testing. I factored out all critical damage and proc damage. I had a total of +11 to pierce for all the trials (I would've had +16 if I had my offhand equipped..). I also did not have cap quickness because of no offhand.

I tested 6 different specs using non-styled attacks and styled attacks (lv 6 taunt: bumblebee's sting) for each spec, except the first (1 pierce).

--------------------------------------------
Spec A: 1(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
258 rounds / 228 hits (88% accuracy)
19.5 DPS
Min 35
Max 55
AVG 44

--------------------------------------------
Spec B: 10(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
260 rounds / 239 hits (89% accuracy)
21.2 DPS
Min 38
Max 59
AVG 48

style damage:

70/70 (100%)
Min 44
Max 68
AVG 56
--------------------------------------------
Spec C: 20(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
257 rounds / 229 hits(89% accuracy)
23.0 DPS
Min 42
Max 63
AVG 52

style damage:
70/70 (100%)
Min 53
Max 76
AVG 63
--------------------------------------------
Spec D: 31(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
242 rounds / 242 hits(100% accuracy)
25.1 DPS
Min 47
Max 68
AVG 57

style damage:

70hits 100%
Min 68
Max 97
Avg 82
--------------------------------------------
Spec E: 40(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
254 rounds / 254 hits (100% accuracy)
26.1 DPS
Min 50
Max 71
AVG 59

style damage:
70/70 (100%)
Min 76
Max 108
AVG 90
--------------------------------------------
Spec F: 50(+11) pierce

non-styled damage:
263 rounds / 263 hits (100% accuracy)
27.0 DPS
Min 51
Max 71
AVG 61

style damage:
70/70 (100%)
Min 83
Max 114
AVG 99
--------------------------------------------

First test is 1+11, you can't have 0 in weapon spec, it starts with 1 point.

No miss with 30+11, I guess that the PvE Doll target has no enchantment on his armor.
It shows the 10% miss penalty that Blue mentionned some weeks ago in another thread. You get this penalty when you have not enough point in weapon spec (75% of level, i.e. 37- at lvl 50).

According to formula i got from DoL sources, average unstyled damage is optimal with 51+ in weapon spec. This average damage is for you about 60 (59 and 61 on you last 2 tests, difference cames from amount of luck i think :D ).

With this 60, you can determine your average damage according to spec by doing
AvgDamage = 60 * (100 + spec) / 150
With 42 spec -> 56.8 (57 in your test)
With 31 spec -> 52.4 (52 in your test)
With 21 spec -> 48.4 (48 in your test)
With 12 spec -> 44.8 (44 in your test)

My theorical values are pretty close to your test, yeah ! 8)

Interesting. Are you sure this is 37 and not 38? I'm not sure if the 37.5 is rounded up or down.

I'm not sure of anything on this. Yours tests seems to confirm the thing i read. I have no other data concerning this point.

Also, what made you think the Dummy does not have enchantment on his armor? The 31+11 surpasses the "37" cap that causes the 10% miss. Does enchantment increase miss chance? Or does this "37" cap not include composite spec, and only the "31" spec.

Because there's a base miss chance, reduced by enchantment of weapon and increase by enchantement of target armor. If both weapon and armor are enchanted in the same way, you get back to the base miss chance.

yes, you need 75% of enemy's level in your weapons spec.

lordgriffon wrote:Oh by the way... ever seen a group of 8 smite clerics? Or play against a group like that? I have. Absolute devastation. The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

Blue wrote:Missrate is influenced by styles, weapon/armor bonus, count of attackers on target. Not weapon condition.

10% improvement for "ToHit" if you have >75% spec of your level.
