about fraps.

fraps does't have any resolution settings just full or half size, if you set it to full size you will get the maximum result, resolution depends on your in game resolution, you said you will set it at 1680x1050 which is the best if you have a 22" inch monitor, and this kind of resolution is considered HD.

now the result you will have is an .avi file that you import in Powerdirector, when you finish editing and you go to produce, select mpeg option and then below the HD 720p, doesn't matter if its PAL or NTSC.

the result you will get is a .mpg file which will be HD quality (not full HD (like 1920x1080) but it is ok while you don't want a huge file as well).

the trick on youtube is the way it treats the files, if you upload a file in .wmv format, it will get hammered no matter how good quality it is, if the file you uploading is .mpg or .avi (prefer .mpg) youtube will get the best of it and it will give the option to watch it in HD as well.

also i see that both your 1st video and this one are stretched, means you either grabbing in 4:3 and producing in 16:9 or something like that, make sure your resolution is 1680x1050 in game and powerdirector is set up to treat the video as 16:9 (i believe the fault is in the produce settings).

@Ramboz, thanks for clearing that up for me, ill definately try out the mpeg 720p and make sure ill produce in same ratio as i grab next time.

Youtube shouldn't make a difference regarding HD option or not, no matter if you used wmv or different movie format. But depending on the format you chose youtube may show the video in full quality right away or some hours later. I have a lot of 1080p videos up that were all rendered as wmv movies. However if I upload wmv it typically takes about 2 hours until the movies is displayed in full resolution and with full audio quality.

Using a youtube-render option in a lot of cases is not recommendable because this will usually compress the video for fast upload and have poor visual quality only.
