I have never spent much time with crafting, plus its been a while..so my question: If I want to salvage stuff, do I need to stick to armor/weapon crafting or does high skill in alchemy e.g. also allow to salvage loot?

Salvaging is done by secondary tradecrafts. You can level as many secondary tradecrafts as you want, but the primary tradecrafts REQUIRE certain sub-crafts to progress. Weaponcrafting (main tradecraft) requires metalworking and some recipes requires woodworking, some leatherworking, and some all three.

I don't believe alchemy requires woodworking or metalworking (two of the most important salvaging tradecrafts), so you would need to level them manually.

EDIT: You'll need the secondary tradecrafts related to the item you want to salvage. If you want to salvage chain armor, you need metalworking. If you want to salvage staves, you need woodworking.
Siege - Warrior
Envoy - Bard
Aegis - Blademaster
Ethical - Mentalist

if you just want to salvage, its cheapest to just go tailoring if i remember correctly since u cant just leave your mainskill at 1 and skill the secondaries to 1000+.

depends on if you actually want to craft other stuff tho

If i have Alchemy as main trade, is it possible to level in Tailor, WC, AC and Flecher as well up to a cap?
ex:
1 Alchemy =1100
2 Tailor =400
3 Flecher =200
4 WC=100
5 AC = 100

And that way level metalworking, woodworking and clothworking to 700-800 for salvaging

Scroll down for the information on caps on different non-primary tradeskills for your chosen tradeskill.

Correct. GM's have been pointing us to http://web.archive.org/web/200312030144 ... adeskills/

...besides that, the gatecentral site pages have not been loading at all in my experience for the past half a year or so.
