.. or : what do i wrong at crafting / .. oder, was mach ich beim craften falsch


Hi, i have a LGM Tailor already ( 1153 Skill atm ) and so i answered a request yesterday, where someone asked for tailors work. He wanted to have a full set tempered padded starkleather ( LvL 51 Leather ) done, so far, so good.

But now the Problem.. as it went for the price i told him i never crafted before on order, but for Friends where i used to take Material costs + a little fee for the time. So i consulted motogs crating calculator ( link below ), and calculated with 25 and 50 retries ( thats what my expierience said would fit to make at least a masterpiece ).

As i told him, my mat costs will be somewhat between 3p 403g 84s 68c (plain material costs at 25 retries for set) and 6p 323g 49s 18c (at 50 retries) and the price would be somewhat in that range, he said its much too expensive, and normally a tailor could make it for about 2 - 3 platin.

I said i can try, but if my mat costs go over 3 p i will take it for my own and wont sell him. I started crafting, and after ~2 hours i have already spent 1,2 p and not even the vest is ready.

Main Problem (i only know on Mid, but maybe its equal on other realms), I can t even sell the 99% parts for mat cost, cause noone wants 99% Leather... tried per broad and auctioneer.

So i ask all tailors : Am i doing something wrong, or did my customer misunderstood something about prices ?

If it is so, they sell for this prices i will only craft for my friends and myself, cause in that time i spend for it, i could do much things more usefull for my own toons, i like helping someone out if he needs something i can provide, but not if i am spending much time and money on it.

Also zog ich motogs craft calculator ( Link unten ) zu Rate, und rechnete mit 25 und 50 Versuchen ( irgendwo da entsteht meiner Erfahrung nach ein MP ).

Als ich ihm dann sagte, meine Materialkosten laegen irgendwo zwischen 3p 403g 84s 68c ( Rein Material 25 Versuche ) und 6p 323g 49s 18c ( bei 50 Versuchen ), sagte er dies waere viel zu teuer, und das ein Schneider normalerweise sowas fuer 2 - 3 Platin herstelle.

Darauf sagte ich, ich werde es versuchen, aber wenn meine Materialkosten 3 p ueberschreiten, werde ich es behalten anstatt zu verkaufen. Ich startete die Arbeit und nach ~2 Stunden habe ich schon 1.2 p vercrafted und nichtmal die Weste fertig.

Dazu kommt das Problem, dass ich nichtmal die 99% Teile verkaufen kann zum Materialpreis, denn niemand ( zumindest auf Mid, aber vll ists in den anderen Reichen genauso ) will 99% Leder.. habs im broad und Auktionator versucht .

Also frage ich alle Schneider : Mache ich etwas falsch oder hat mein Kunde etwas bei den Preisen missverstanden?

Sollte es so sein, dass die fuer den preis verkaufen, dann werde ich nur noch fuer meine Freunde und mich craften, denn in der Zeit die ich aufwende koennte ich nuetzlicheres fuer meine eigenen Toons machen, ich helfe zwar gerne, wenn jemand etwas braucht was ich liefern kann, aber nicht, wenn ich dafuer Zeit und Geld aufwenden muss.

You do nothing wrong in particular. As I told you ingame, i would count with 49-99 retries (49 for friends/99 for others) since chance for doing a mp is 2% (which would be 1 in 50, so 25 retries would be lucky) with 20% mark-up (for 99% 9 retries with 10% mark-up).

The one who wanted to buy a mp-set of padded starklaeder for 2p must be nuts and obvisously has no clue about crafting!!! He obvisously don't know what it takes in money, time and effort to just to get high enough skill to even craft such orders. Maybe he learned it in the wrong game .

If u feel uncomfortable with such a price, craft the whole set while writing down ur expenses and charge exactly that. (but don't be surprised if it matches or maybe even outstrips the fixed 99 retries/20% price )

MP Leather sets are around 1-2p after sell back of retires as per motog; but I for once if I do MP stuff it's not the matter of sell back nor the matter of retires (well maybe retries )

It's a matter of TIME.


If some wants 1 MP piece rushed; I charge an extra 500g on it. (Again; depending on piece)

It's the matter of crafter; who deciedes the price.

I did MP cloth boots and had explained that the variables for MP is kinda wonky and he agreed; I felt sorry for him because he waited 1.5 hours because MP Boots some how took 273 retries. AND my tailoring is max

2% is like a baseline spell. It's varies. ALOT I remember when I was leveling tailoring and got a MP lvl 51 sleeves when they were still OJ. FIRST TRY.

So; charge the person what you feel is correct. OR just have him pay half up front; so he doesn't screw you in the end.

i charge around 9-10P for MP set of leather (simply because I don't wanna sit around for 1-2 days making a set of MP armor and get a 200g tip)


that however is the price with tip etc etc etc


for me:


MP = 50 retries + 50%
99 = 10 retries + 20%

and then I dont add tips etc etc on it so I can always give a 100% precise price

ofc I can get lucky and earn a lot of money - however I can also be very unlucky and spend more than I get

its all about luck in the end

however charging 3-6p for an MP set of leather is def. not too much

and dont ever make fixed prices unless you have the stuff already sitting in your vault.

i already have a macro /depends on the retries
i never forget these mp leather leggings i made wich took 420+ tries and costet me nearly 10 p. (luckily there were for myself )

i personally dont do anymore mp on order exept for guildies and some exeptions,cause its just not worth it sitting there for hours/days crafting and when you are finally done and tell the price you get a : as answer ^^
if mp happenes i sell it for 50 tries +20%

I mostly charge per try. If someone wants 99%, i charge him materialcosts+20%markup+20%retrycosts for 5 tries. Same goes for MPs. If im unlucky and dont get any result, i just calculate next 5 retries, take em up in front again and craft... Thats easy, you get payed for your time and not for the work. The payment is quite nice and my customers are happy. Something simmilar goes for sc. Depending on gemlevel the customer wants me to craft, ill charge him more or less, but its usually pendles between 200g and 300g per item. Ofcourse i wont be crafting a lvl 50 all focus gem 99% for just 500g^^

Du machst nichts falsch, ich habe 4 Platin vercraftet, ohne die Beine, und ich hatte Glück, weil ich direkt nach den MP-Armlingen (ca. 100trys) ne MP Weste bekommen hab.
