daoc is mostly single threaded gambryo engine and a 32bit game. so will never use all of 4gb. and by time it gets close you'll start having graphic glitches or zoning issues. Very large zergs might have significant fps drops.

Isn't your pc, it's the old gamebryo engine. probably some tricks and such to help out like bitsum process lasso, or shuting down services not needed or something.

Could it be the DirectX drivers? Or perhaps outdated gfx drivers?

I would look into DirectX being an issue. Even the live forums may provide answers. You may have to upgrade them or even downgrade them based on compatibility issues.

maybe run compatibility mode on camelot.exe under the electronicaart/daoc folder. for windows xp service pack 2 or something.

Is your DAOC install on a spinning drive or SSD? If it is on the a spinning drive try to move to an SSD. "Stutters" are common from spinning drives as files get loaded.

Something to check could be a regular SSD. Maybe related to that.
Also ensure your system firmware is up to date.

Scan your PC with anti malware software, is possible you downloaded something unwanted (bitcoin mining malware or something like that).
Also chceck if all drivers on your PC are up to date, also disc firmware.
