Hello all, I bought a new laptop a few days ago. This computer is so new that it comes factory installed with Windows 8.1, and can't be downgraded. The issue lies with the actual gameplay its-self. While in game if I move the muse the game will completely freeze until I stop moving the mouse however, wile in "Mouse Look" mode I experience no problems at all. From the information I've been able to gather on the internet, this is an issue with older game not using Raw or Direct mouse input. Windows 8.1 also set a limit on the mouse polling rate to <200mz. I have tried all hot-fixes, all work around, I've even written a small bridge program for Portal to game.dll with all registry edits applied. All drivers are up to date and everything thing like that. Just wondering if anyone out there is experiencing the same problem, or if anyone was and found a fix. Any help with this is GREATLY appreciated. :wall:

There are several different problems that cause the mouse to freeze and stutter in DAOC.

One of those problems occurs only on 8.1. (You may have some other problem.) Microsoft addressed the problem that's specific to 8.1 in patch 2908279 which was included in the automatic update for December. At this point, if you have automatic updates on, your copy of Windows has been patched.

However this patch is a "shim." That's Microsoft's name for a patch that gets applied to programs only if you put an entry in the registry that says to do so.

In other words, you have to modify the registry to tell Windows to apply the shim to DAOC.

The easiest way to do this is with Mojo. For more information, see:

I have previously tried that with no luck.

Yeah, I thought you might have some other problem because you wrote the following:

Those same symptoms in DAOC were reported on Postcount a few weeks ago by Scottae and Fyric.

Fyric reported that he was able to work around the problem by changing Windows mouse options after the game launched. Scottae reported that he solved the problem by reverting to an old video driver.

You missed a solution!
Pythion's solution

I got laughed at for suggesting PostCount sticky a thread that might prevent people from upgrading their PC or quitting the game.
It's too bad Uthgard has been slow to modify the game.dll to prevent 8.1 framerate limiter issues and cursor refresh from destroying game performance.

As for Windows 8.1 there are registry fixes and using any dll before 1.112.
Coincidentally my mod for custom cursors also got rid of the Catalyst 13.4+ refresh issue. It was about the same time mojo got the "use system cursor" option. :p

It's awesome to see Robbie the creator of Lottacam and Mojo here, you would make a great addition to the community! I'm guessing DAoC Portal was much of an inspiration for you, with it's ability to bypass the patcher and use actual quicklogins.

Is that directed to me? The second solution linked in my post above (Scottae's) is an older driver.

The social climate on PostCount can be extremely unpleasant. I disagree with their policy of allowing people to insult each other. VN was the same way -- or even worse -- and I think this hurt the game tremendously over the years. I think Mythic should have created its own official forum for DAOC at the beginning with policies like Blizzard uses in its WoW forums.

I agree but I would direct this to Mythic even before DOL and Uthgard. Ideally Mythic should fix these things in game.dll.

How does your mod work?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. It occurred to me the other day that Mythic's long downward spiral may be close to the end. In which case DAOC will be freeshards (unless EA sells DAOC but that seems unlikely).

Actually I think I wrote most of Mojo before I tried DAOC Portal. But two parts of Mojo were inspired by DAOC Portal. About a year ago, Etaew asked me to add launchable desktop icons to Mojo. He posted a screenshot of DAOC Portal's desktop icons on PostCount so I could see what he meant, and I implemented the idea. The second thing is also via Etaew. One day he asked me why Mojo didn't allow people to launch DAOC in such a way that the realm-selection screen appears. I replied, "I wanted to do that, but I tested it and it seems to be impossible." Etaew replied that he knew it's possible because DAOC Portal does it. Based on Etaew's encouragement I took a second look, discovered a bug in my test code, and put the feature in Mojo where it's exposed as "Launch account."

Well When I try fix one by changing the mass pointer to trailing , it works but I can't see a mouse pointer at all..

I have downloaded MOJO but I can't apply this fix because I can't select the DAOC folder for whatever reason. I point the MOJO procram to electronic arts/ dark age of camelot , but does not recognize .... sigh
