If you become irate, angry, wrathful, furious, ireful, wroth or indignent by anything that I say to you or just in general; you should always remember, it's only because I care that I pay attention in the first place.

The DAOC client itself is only officially supported on Windows XP, Vista, and 7, with limited support available for Windows 8 (it works by virtue of being close-enough in design to Windows 7).

DAOCPortal offers support for those OSes, with limited Linux support. Mac support is largely untested (if at all). You may have success through wine-like programs, but you will find there is a very limited group who play from Mac ( I heard of the first player on Mac less than a week ago and they had trouble connecting).

The most compatible solution would be a dual-boot scenario where you load Windows on a second partition.

Thanks for the quick reply Abydos. Hopefully this will come in handy for someone else and many others in the future. Appreciate the quick reply.
:EDIT: I will change the title to something more appropriate.

Abydos is correct. You "can" with a lot of effort get DAoC to work on OSX with either wine or crossover. However it is not easy to get right. You can also see performance issues as well as mouse cursor problems.

I'm a long time mac user and can tell you your best bet is Bootcamp. Basically dual booting windows. Any flavor of XP to Win8 will work fine. Just remember if you load Win8 you have to install .Net v3.5. The version that comes with win8 will not work with the portal program. I run win8 on my 2011 MBP and it works just fine.

There's a few threads here that describe in detail how to install DAoC on a bootcamp mac if you need assistance.

installing Bootcamp and the daoc + DAOC portal in that dual boot system is very straight forward.

you can find issue in overheating graphic card (especially on MBP, Mac mini or iMac). some tricks about undervolting the system are working fine as well as having latest graphic drivers.

my main issue has always been the mouse comportment in DAOC while on my MBP 2009, the view spins when you move your mouse and it becomes un-playable.
This issue has been present on Bootcamp, parallels and a VMware fusion. on either XP or W7 (32 or 64). DAOC was either clean downloaded install or copy of my working platform on my main PC.

So far no solution, waiting for budget to buy a new MBP and test it again.

HTH

cheers

@Matsee, I can not believe you have had so many problems as that.

I've been using a MacBook to play DoL since early 2009.
There were a few issues getting it working at first back with OS X 10.5.8, but under 10.7 I have not had many problems.
Newer versions of CrossOver have made it less problematic compared to the ones I tried at the start.
Back then I defaulted to using Wine after testing a lot of stuff.

Under OS X these are the ones I found out working:
Wine > CrossOver > VirtualBox > Parallells > VMware
(It have been a while since I tested CrossOver, so it might have improved enough to surpass the Wine option by now.)

When asked I still suggest people to use bootcamp with WinXP (64bit version is prefered).
It just runs smoother than any other Windows-version I have tried under bootcamp.
Another note is to keep that installation as clean as possible, with the exception of a good software firewall (no anti-virus or other stuff). The performance impacts drops very quickly if you bog up the system for some reason.

And for the love of god, CLEAN YOUR MAC.
During a short period I ran at 15-23 fps when normal, 1-7 when recording.
Opened it up, and cleaned the fan and such.
After that I was able to do 60 fps recording, and 180 fps normal.
(This is strange to mention in a DAoC related thread since all but the newest version is locked to max 30 fps. )

The mouse issue you mention I have never really heard of before, so it might just be some of the settings you use.
I have however heard that if you use a widescreen display with TV resolution there are some strange issues when you pan and such, but it is not directly related to the mouse.
