I have never hard this issue as I have been playing for a while buy right after I select my character the game crashes and exits to my desktop. What gives?

Blazz hey buddy. I had that problem before... make sure to disable all antivirus or firewall software and then try... my works Symantec was blocking 1 character and not anymore without any notices.

Maybe it's my same problem.

Once I select a character, looks like it's loading the zone.. but the game crash to desktop.
If I try to load it again, I got the same result.
If I try to select a different character, it works.
It not happen always with the same character, looks like it's totally random.

I've solved (hmmm not a great solution...) by restart my PC.

I have no virus/trojan/rootkit (checked with avira, avg, kaspersky, malwarebytes)
I have no dedicated firewalls (except the window's one) and btw it happen with ONE character (random).

Yesterday I've tryied to simply reload the same "bugged" character.. and it works.

So maybe u should simply wait 1/2 minutes and try loggin' again.
