Ways to connect other then Daoc Portal

How else can one connect to Uthgard other then via Daoc Portal? Daoc Portal is not working for me, when I try to connect (any server) it just shows one of those windows error messages asking to send an error report to Microsoft.
I know that it is possible for UO, for instance, to log directly to a private shard instead of OSI (thus not using any tertiary program like uo Razor) by changing a config file and substitute the OSI adress to that of a private server, is it possible to do anything similar in Daoc? |

i still use the connect.bat to log in
you make a folder called loader inside your daoc folder and edit the connect.bat with your login and pw http://www.mediafire.com/?daquhkdemvhlef4 |

just tried this and i get "Service Not Available" for client version 1.96
using DAOCPortal itself and i can log in fine with the same client. |

I have used Esme's way to connect (along with Blue's correction of ip address) and the game launches and connects well and so on... so i can connect now, thanks.
HOWEVER since it is not a connection via Daoc portal, I can not "use" the Uthgard-speciffic mods like the crafting fix and the OF areas, as those mods are meant to be used with Daoc portal, i guess. Before I start giving those screenshots that Blue asked, does anyone know how to make those mods work with Esme's connecting way (via connect.bat file. thus without Daoc Portal)? Edit: in other words, how did Esme manage to get access to OF and the proper crafting system if she connects via that .bat file instead of Daoc Portal? |

You must patch using DAOCPortal - please ensure .NET framework 3.5.1 is installed. Run all windows updates after installing it.

She used DAoCPortal. I would strongly recommend to use the official connect.bat from our Downloads section as Esme's way is not supported anymore. You need in every case DAoCPortal. It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

It turns out that Daoc portal was not working because of my version of .NET, which was 2.0. So Abydos was right, and now I updated to 3.5 (his link) and Daoc Portal ran just fine.
