So, I have searched the web, this forum, and exhausted my researching ability and I still cannot find a fix for this.

I have a PC using Windows 7 64 bit, and I was able to successfully get into Uthgard and other shards.
My friend has a laptop using the exact same version of windows, and for some reason we are experiencing an issue constantly. He had the latest patch on his version of DAoC, we installed DAoC portal, patched up just like on my system, but he can not connect. His laptop would freeze in the black screen before the loading screen, in the loading screen, or in the realm select screen when I click a realm to choose. We successfully got into the server once. So, he uninstalled daoc, daoc portal, re downloaded the game, reinstalled, re downloaded daoc portal and all the mods, and still continued to have the same issue, so we went through the uninstall/reinstall process for the third time, and we still cannot successfully connect to any shard. Anybody who can help me on this? Like I said, I've searched the forum over, as well as the web, and I cannot find a fix for this.

for me it sounds like a hardware issue, how good is his lappie?

Try creating a trial account for live servers and see if that works, at all - just to make sure that it is not a general problem but related to DOL. (although not sure whether the current live version is compatible with DOL right now, remember reading something a while ago).

Anyway, if he can connect to live servers, then I am at a loss. I had trouble running the game smoothly on Uthgard when DAOC portal was installed on the systems partition/drive - but connecting was never an issue.

If he cannot connect to live servers either, then it would be interesting to see his system specs. Also, is that laptop on the same line as your computer? If not, have you tried that? If yes, is he running a firewall or any other background tools that may interfere with networking?

Also, always a good idea is to re-initialize the entire system. Windows has a tendency of degrading over time, leading to weird behavior.

The third time we reinstalled the game, he got in on his regular account. His laptop has had minimal to no issues playing the live game. We just cannot get the free shards to work.

He reinstalled it after I posted this, and can currently play live with no problems.


Off the subject, is there a way to connect to live without completely reinstalling the game after using the portal?

If can't connect to live servers try posting your dxdiag.

Nothing wrong with the OS, he plays the live game fine. No idea why we still can't connect.. Is there anybody out there who can help?
