Hey guys,

So I was trying to log onto Dark Age today - I launched the Portal as I have done hundreds of times before... except this time, it crashes with an error message straight away, before it brings up the server list. I havent done anything new to the computer, not installed anything differently, I launched it yesterday with no problems.

I've tried restarting computer and reinstalling the program but it still wont launch.

I'm running Windows XP, computer has 2 gig of ram, good nvidia graphics card etc - Dark Age runs really well.

Any ideas what it could be?

Cheers!

Illusionist

Edit: I also tried installing the newest version of the Microsoft .NET framework and the portal still wont launch... Help me out guys! :)

Day 2 of no DaoC. I tried System Restore to 3 days back when it was working, but it still crashes. The only difference which could have caused it to stop working was a Windows Update... Is there any way that could have interfered? I'm baffled.

Can anyone help me play the bestest game ever again? It seems like such a dumb problem - not being able to open the portal!

Cheers!

Illusionist

edit: Maybe a different installer or client version could solve it?

I did it guys!! thanks to Nix's suggestion of using the event log I guessed it was the .NET framework which was causing problems... I managed to uninstall it through a specialised program, then I reinstalled the portal fresh with the 2.0 .NET Framework version and finally it works :) :) :) I'm so happy :D

Cheers!

Glad you figured it out ^^

About the .bat files:

You simply open a text file write what I wrote in it and save it as a .bat file.. then you simply run the .bat file and it should connect for you :)

The bat file might have to be in your daoc folder, but I am not 100% sure on that one..
