I've tried this quest several times and probably lost over 2p trying it since it was added to Uthgard.

I finally completed the step in escorting the horse to the Hib frontier with a group when NF was still on the server. Then, when I went back to turn in the quest the NPC wouldn't talk to me. I used /callgm and I never got an answer so I had to abandon the quest and get it again.

Now I tried the quest again today and the horse vanished on me. Twice. It didn't walk away, it just vanished altogether.

No wonder nobody ever finishes this quest.

Honnestly this quest is just not valuable at all.
You'll spent several times 500PO (beacuse you get killed by the spawned mobs every 100m, because you get killed by ennemies who roam, because you lost the horse, because it bugs sometimes)
Finally you gain only the possibility to spend 8 or 10 or 15 PP (I don't remember exactly) for a horse...

Loss of time, loss of money, no gain, just forget it IMO

just to enlight you:

the gain is:
.) about 3 bubbs XP on a level 49
.) you can differ yourself a bit from the majority with a different horseskin (ok thats the point of lowest priority)
.) you get access to a horse for RvR with speed 153 with is the same as casterspeed..(thats worth MUCH espezially when you roam without a speeder)

noone saids its gona be easy..i did the quest with 5 friends in agramon. they helped me to get my way (killing mob-spawn, guarding me against enemys, healing horse).
just get it in your mind..Daoc is no sologame. gather friends and do it.
only problem is the vanish of the horses, i had it also..when i tryed it with my next char now in OF..tryed it 8 times...and 8 times the horse vanished..always at different spots..dont know why.

I am OK with your point, but it cost you some PP to do a hard quest (let's say it is normal for an interesting reward)
And finally the reward is nothing except the rigth to spend additionnal PP's to afford the horse.

For me it is definitively expensive

Its quite cool if you find other 7 lvl 49 ppl whod be willing to do this quest and get 3 xp-bubbles in about 30 minutes! Thats even more than youd get for completing tajendi.

Heh, happened to me yesterday also. Escorted the horse all the way to MMG and when Souljin went LD the horse vanished. Think it might related to that, the horse should only vanish when the person that's doing the quest goes LD, not when someone else in the group does. :/

Same problem for me, horse vanished at least once. Got the quest done after 2p and asked a gm for the vanished horse. He said they will change the quest so you dont need to spend money on it. I would wait for that ;)

Back when the quest was designed and implemented, it was actually intended that the horse vanishes if a player was trying to quickly rush at full speed towards the final destination. It is a feature to not let players avoid the given difficulty. So, as long as you do the quest the way it is intended to be done ...

1) The player first needs to understand that this is a group quest. You will most certainly fail if you try to do it on your own. Not being able to understand such an easy thing will lead to an immense gold-sink ;)
2) get a horse and spent some collateral (gold)
3) escort the horse to a certain destination whilst defending it and yourself against spawning NPCs and possible enemy players.

... the horse won't disappear. The horse may only disappear if you "abandon" it by simply running to far away from it or if it gets killed in action. The high price was chosen due to the fact that such a horse means a great advantage in RvR zones due to offered caster-speed 5. In addition, it is meant to be an achievement and not a simple "click&buy" (who cares) gimmick. Please keep also in mind that it was planned to implement horse armors, though I'm currently not aware of the state of implementing these.

With kind regards,
Sethor

so this means, there's no time component until the horse vanishes and that is should only vanish if you're too fast. it should not vanish if you fight every add and take very long to finish.

for me it vanished two times without any reason (i made a post in the german section), at full health and standing still.
i talked to someone who completed the quest recently and he said that you can finish it by mezzing all adds and just keep moving, never stopping or waiting which should not be the only way to complete it (judging from the above post).

Wrong. The horse disappeared while I was just standing still fighting mobs. I did not run away from it. I didn't even move. Poof. Gone. It didn't get attacked either, it was at 100% hp the whole time.

Usually the horse is named [Charactername]'s Horse. The last time I tried it right before it vanished it changed to 'Horse' and stayed that way for about 5 seconds and vanished. I tried to click on it to interact with it and it still vanished.

This quest is buggy. The horse never vanished on me back when New Frontiers was on the server and I was able to get the quest done with a group escort - but then the NPC in Jordheim would not advance the quest after I completed it and I had to abandon it and get it again since no GM would respond to my /callgm for help.

Have you attempted to do it all the way through the right way since it was re-implemented for OF? It used to work, now it does not.

TheRat, I simply described how the quest is intended to work. Due to your description, I assume that there must be a bug, too. So, hopefully a TA-profound GM is reading this and going to fix the quest.

Kind regards,
