Is there a way to get the game to utilize both cpu cores? I have an oldass Athlon X2 on winXP 3GB ram and an Nvidia8800gtoc.
I notice the game chews up one core at 100% usage and causes the game to lag while the second isnt touched. I have an amd patch that was suppose to change this I thought but it didnt do anything.

Anyone have a fix for this?

thanks!

DAoC is not multithreaded. But it doesnt need to be imo, the game is fast enough.
It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

ya a game has to be coded to use more then one thread. And if you get lag with daoc, its most likely because of your video card or lack of ram.

also you could try and split it priorities so it only use 1 core.. might be an issue since DAoC isn't build for dual cores..

I have a quad core and Daoc has yet to lag outside of connection. Telianet is satan incarnated into a network......

I remember playing this on a athlon x64 with only one core, no way that dual core would lag.

How much ram do you have and what type? (DDR2 im guessing?)
What kind of video card do you have?
Have you done a tracert to find out if your connection goes through satan?

It uses up an entire core and I dont know why, doesnt matter if I run in windowed mode or full screen it is the same result.
3GB Ram, Vidcard Nvidia 8800 512MB ram.

Its by no means unbearable, just freezes here and there.
Maybe it is just the network lag that others keep talking about.

Its time for a new system anyways :) this one is almost 4 years old

From what you are saying it seems like at graphical problem.

When in game in you look at the lam meter (not sure what it is called think it is Shift +L in game) you get 3 green blobs, that can turn into yellow trianges or red squares.

The first blob is related to packet loss, then ping, the FPS.

If it was a graphical problem the third blob would be yellow or red.

I have 2*T8300 with 4GB ram and 2*8800GTX (512*2=1024Mb) and the only thing I suffer from is lag from a poor internet connection and eventual packet loss when I linkdie.

In terms of the ram when you run the game look how much ram is actually being used. Out of 4Gb of ram DAoC only takes up ~750Mb with plenty to spare.

If it is a graphical problem, maybe tone down the graphics and set to 'fastest framerate' and see how that plays, but again with the lag meter it will tell you more.

Midgard players don´t just simply play Daoc - we play Daoc to riun the game for Alb and Hib

I have freezes, sometimes 2 or 3 after another and then I die because I was in the frontiers, mostly. It really sucks.

I recognized that my cpu has 0,2 to 0,5 usage according to speedfan (is this a viable source for the usage of my quad core? what could be the problem here. because it so very annoying!) Thanks!

If anyone needs to run there clients on a single core, and dont feel like setting that in task manager every time you play, here is a shortcut trick/bat file trick if you start you game using the dolloader way.

Using a Bat file - Input this string instead

c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 D:\Games\DAOC\Labyrinth\Launcher\dolloader.exe game.dll 88.198.56.21 10300 1 Username Password

Just change the location to where your game is located and input your username and password. Then set what affinity/core you want to use.

/affinity 1 = core 0
/affinity 2 = core 1
so on

You can do this same trick by shortcut. First locate your dolloader.exe file, in the game directory, then right click and make shortcut to desktop. Now open that shortcut and change the target and only the target to the above command line, it will work the same way. If your using portal, then i have no idea if you can.

I would only recommend this, if your having issues, if not or it doesnt help id leave it on normal settings without the /affinity. Also with this trick you can add /abovenormal to start apps with abovenormal priority, or /high for high priority, if you had use for such command.
