Anyone know why we've been experiencing HUGE lag spikes during RvR?

guildies of mine have been stating, as well, that right before a RvR fight (ie Emain) that they ( i as well) lag horribly, like no movement at all on my end of the game for like 20 seconds. the lag stops COMPLETELY after my character is dead. it's wierd. i never experienced this on live servers.

i can stand in the middle of df with 3-4 groups crowded around me and be smooth as glass, yet on inc, it locks up. bad deal.

I love uthgard. but that sucks :/

as a side note, i live in the states.

Texas here experiencing similar issues.

I don't die but its like the fight is a movie that skips parts. He is here then there then there. DF is smooth, BGs I get random spikes, especially yesterday, even when just running around with /stick.

Today, mid day I had lag spikes during the fights. Towards the end of the day, just one group of albs and two hib stealthers. Well no lag.

Honestly it sounds like there is a bandwidth clog. Not sure where the server is based, but it seems related to time. Since the server is on a server farm rather than its own database it is susceptible to getting its bandwidth capped by other games running. While most FPS games won't notice this, a server servicing 800 some players would have data brown outs.

No offense, but the server yall are renting sounds marketed to CS fanboys and TF2 kiddies. If it was truly meant for server traffic it would be a Xenon, not an i7.

However, with technology being the way it is it may very well be my end. I would like to know the recommended ports to leave open for DoL, DAoC, and Uthgard if it has a specific.

Running: W7 x64, 4 gigs DDR2 800 5-5-5-15, e6750 (OCed to 3.2 GHz), GTX 260 (216, marginal OC), RAID 0 (with important data on a seperate slave drive), P45 mobo, with linksys router, cable connection (6Mb down 1Mb up ~150 mile distance). Honestly, I don't think its my end.

as said before

if you get routed through telia when you hit germany that will explain the lag

so stop bashing the server host as its telia being crappy :P

Actually, core1.tge5-1-bbnet1.ext1.dal.pnap.net seems to be the real issue. Multiple pings and they have the biggest spike before I hit germany.

O and I typed that up in the time it took you to reply. So blah.

Playing from Estonia, and started having the some troubles. Since recently, I have been getting lag spikes, regardless of the online numbers.

Here's what my traceroute says:

Tracing route to uthgard.game-server.cc [88.198.56.21]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 56 ms 159 ms 39 ms speedtouch.lan [192.168.1.254]
2 27 ms 27 ms 28 ms 80-235-48-1-dsl.kjj.estpak.ee [80.235.48.1]
3 * * 26 ms noe-sr1-if-7.ee.estpak.ee [90.190.153.89]
4 26 ms 26 ms 25 ms noe-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.ee.estpak.ee[90.190.134.1]
5 57 ms 73 ms 57 ms ams-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.nl.estpak.ee [194.126.123.14]

6 61 ms 62 ms 60 ms AMS-2.nl.lambdanet.net [195.69.144.212]
7 60 ms 61 ms 61 ms DUS-1-pos011.de.lambdanet.net [82.197.128.29]
8 115 ms 60 ms 60 ms FRA-3-eth200.de.lambdanet.net [217.71.96.114]
9 65 ms 64 ms 64 ms NUE-2-eth210.de.lambdanet.net [217.71.96.162]
10 67 ms 67 ms 68 ms hetzner-ffm-gw.lambdanet,net [213.239.247.205]
11 67 ms 66 ms 65 ms hos-bb2.juniper1.rz6.hetzner.de [213.239.240.143
]
12 67 ms 67 ms 67 ms hos-tr1.ex3k43.rz6.hetzner.de [213.239.229.54]
13 66 ms 65 ms 67 ms uthgard.game-server.cc [88.198.56.21]

Trace complete.

I don't know what I should do about it now. As pointed out above, the lag started quite recently, and it has never been there before...

Could anyone help with that?

Cheers!

Try a ping -n 1000 uthgard.game-server.cc and check whether you get timeouts inbetween.

Been tracing for awhile now, and sometimes I do get decent figures:

Tracing route to uthgard.game-server.cc [88.198.56.21]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 42 ms 99 ms 199 ms speedtouch.lan [192.168.1.254]
2 27 ms 27 ms 25 ms 80-235-48-1-dsl.kjj.estpak.ee [80.235.48.1]
3 26 ms 25 ms 26 ms noe-sr1-if-7.ee.estpak.ee [90.190.153.89]
4 25 ms 26 ms 25 ms noe-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.ee.estpak.ee [90.190.134.1]
5 103 ms 56 ms 55 ms ams-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.nl.estpak.ee [194.126.123.14]

But mostly like this:
Tracing route to uthgard.game-server.cc [88.198.56.21]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 32 ms 198 ms 199 ms speedtouch.lan [192.168.1.254]
2 27 ms 28 ms 26 ms 80-235-48-1-dsl.kjj.estpak.ee [80.235.48.1]
3 * * 26 ms noe-sr1-if-7.ee.estpak.ee [90.190.153.89]
4 26 ms 25 ms 26 ms noe-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.ee.estpak.ee [90.190.134.1]
5 57 ms 56 ms 56 ms ams-bb1-xe-0-3-0-0.nl.estpak.ee [194.126.123.14]

The 3rd line screws up...

Your ping attempt above looks smooth. I just want to exclude any other reason for lags like server and client. I noticed some big freezes from time to time in my client but was not able to find out what happened. Everything stopped, no animation or movement possible.

same happens for me sometimes.. sometimes I think that if too much info is send to the client (which then sends it on to the server) something happens and it gets overloaded.. where this bottleneck is though I have no idea.. but there appears to be one somewhere .. either in daoc, dol, or the connection (must be in one of those 3 things as it looks like a lot of people have this and I doubt many have the same hardware)
