Sorry guys, but i saw a name on Midgard : Sicherheitsdienst. A few days ago.
I know this mean "security service", it's common german words but... it was the security service of ****** state during 33-45. Isn't forbidden ? I ask people about that on Uthgard but i were misunderstood. I like german, people, I live near germany and I have a german name. I don't want to insult a nice people, I just want to have an answer about this name. Thank you very much ![]() |

You think to much ....

Maybe. Anyway, i don't want to create a controversy. But, for example, I remember the two german words for army "wehrmacht" which is now "bundeswehr", and i think it was the same reasoning for SD.
I do NOT amalgam, i'm not stuped ^^ [edit] Is it a word still in use now? If yes, i am so sorry and i was wrong. |

I did some research. I was wrong...
I am really sorry, guys ![]() |

"Sicherheitsdienst" has nothing to do with ******. There were organizations named "SS" (Schutzstaffel) and the "Gestapo" (Geheime Staatspolizei). The word "Sicherheitsdienst" is a common word for security service. Many security companies use it and there is absolutely no problem with it. ![]() |

EDIT: Deleted German post, rewrote in English
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicherheitsdienst : "The Sicherheitsdienst (SD, Security Service) was primarily the intelligence service of the SS and the ****** Party in ****** Germany. The organization was the first ****** Party intelligence organization to be established and was often considered a "sister organization" with the Gestapo, which the SS had infiltrated heavily after 1934. Between 1933 and 1939, the SD was administered as an independent SS office, after which it was transferred to the authority of the Reich Main Security Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt, or RSHA), as one of its five offices." http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jso ... st/sd.html : "At the Nuremberg War Crime Trials, the SD (Sicherheitsdienst) was declared a criminal organization and membership of it made its men liable to prosecution. " Personally, I am not happy with a DAOC-Char named Sicherheitsdienst. It's much less a name but a denomination. And one that I find is highly inappropriate in a 'racial war' environment. If being killed by the SD appears as a completely unnecessary offense to some players, I can very well understand. I could accept it as a second name, though since it is indeed still used in German language and mostly not referencing the ******. |

Thank you very much Nayru !
But look at this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicherheitsdienst I asked the same question to french people and they had the same reaction as me to this word, look at the wikipedia page in English and French! We are misinformed, there is no indication that this word is still used today without any connotation. Finally, know that I feel ashamed. I come from Alsace, a region of France influenced by German culture that I appreciate. Unfortunately, there are sometimes problems of mutual understanding, while we are very close to each other. well, i have a booklet, provided by the ministry of the interior of north-rhine westphalia (Germany), that lists forbidden symbols, names etc. of the ****** regime. "Sicherheitsdienst" is not among them. Most security service organisations in Germany use the word "security" in their names and on their vests but there are others who call themselves "Sicherheitsdienst".

Sicherheitsdienst is a very stupid name for a character in a RPG, but not uncommon for security services today.
There are now so many stupid names runnign around, that you would have a hard time justifying to rename him and at the same time let many others run around with unchanged names. |

I bet youd feel much more uncomfortable by getting a deathblow from a unttersturmführer, obersturmführer, hauptsturmführer, sturmbandführer, obersturmbandführer and many others, commisioned officer ranks from the SS, than by a organisations' name that was actually named after its first priority objective, beeing a security service instead of some abbriviations like FBI, KGB, etc.

A topic about ****** in Uthgard and that not even in Off Topic. Its getting really weird here...

Renamed - problem solved

I myself as a native german speaker didn't see anything wrong in "Sicherheitsdienst", but almost all english results on google refer to the ****** organisation.
I don't think the player wanted to refer to that, so there is no punishment for an inappropiate name. The character has been renamed, this thread is locked. |
