hi,

I usually install DAOC on xp and it works fine. I just have all the files and copy them to program files and then install the DAOC Portal and log in and play.

With vista it was harder, I had to set administration right for both daoc and the daoc portal and something went wrong with the copying so I downloaded a new camelot.exe from daoc.goa.com. Then it updated correctly. And I could log in. But when I selected a character and hit play. It says: Looking for solution. Programm doesn't work. Wait for a solution. Or something like that.

Well I wanted to install the game at a friend. He bought his pc at Aldi. And the pc should run the game. So right now I can't check anything.

I did that too...hmmm

Don't know if he has updated his drivers.

But as I said I cannot check it atm. So I want more of a list of things that could be wrong. So I can change it next sunday.

You don't need to use compatibility mode.

Turn off Windows Firewall.
Turn off UAC.
Restart.
Make sure antivirus is disabled (unless you know for certain that it's not blocking).
Update latest Windows Updates.

Which client did u download? Had problems with the LOTM from camelot-europe.com too. Try the Darkness Rising one and update it to LOTM after downloading patches.

Like I said I use the client from myself cause I can play, but my friend doesn't. So I do not download anything.

Steps I already have token.
give administrative rights to user, to daoc portal, to camelot.exe.
updated Daoc Portal
Update daoc by using camelot.exe
Updated the driver.

OK so far, my friend said he had bullguard but can't find the icon anymore. And is too tired to continue the process. Hopefully this is the problem :/

Never do so! The UAC is doing fine.

Your 3rd link which is related to the YouTube video is even past. ;)

Code: Select all
Right click DAoCPortal.exe
Properties
Compatibility
Mark "Run as an Administrator"
Apply
OK

Same procedure with the other *.exe files inside of the DAoCPortal Folder.

From now on the UAC will permanently ask you if you really want to start *.exe which you have to accept everytime.

Annoying in the beginning becoming routine after a couple of days. But with the upper options set everything including updates should run fine without any problems.

For the bullguard issue which I do not know, honestly.

Code: Select all
System Settings
Programs and Functions
Select the entry for Bullguard
Press deinstall or remove above the listed items

ok so far:
give administrative rights to user, to daoc portal, to camelot.exe.
updated Daoc Portal
Update daoc by using camelot.exe
Updated the driver.
give the right string to daoc portal
my friend couldn't find bullguard, he supposes it has already been deleted.

And still the same error:
Programm doesn't work, wait till we have a solution.

I've tried with the DR client. I can only get past the login.dll if I choose a quickcharacter that I've already deleted, otherwise I get an error that says login.dll has stopped working. I'm going to try it with the other clients too. I've done just about everything with the different compatibility modes, but nothing seems to work yet. If you or someone you know has gotten DAOC to run on Vista, specifically RC1, please let me know what it is you're doing! Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Disable UAC.

Click START, Control Panel, Classic View, Administrative Tools, System Configuration.
Click Tools tab.
Scroll down to Disable UAC and click Launch.
Restart computer.

My UAC is still activated and causes no errors.

The UAC has got some sense believe it or not. By deactivating it the operating system is more attackable from outside again.

If you really want to deactivate it, do so. I do not commend it but if it is the only way to keep it running on your system you might have to.

UAC's only line of defense is asking you if you want executables, and some vbs' from running. When a large amount of people have had problems with it, and have resolved them by disabling it, it would make sense to turn it off.
