No surprise there. @Symantec. I run Microsoft Security Essentials without issue with DAOC, FYI.

This meant my problem returning. Since I now knew the source of all my problems I was able to troubleshoot. After a few frustrating hours I discovered that The application control was the cause of the problem. I uninstalled that feature, and voila it all works nicely again. I hope this helps anyone else who might have the same issue at some point

After portal closes and restarts any character above level 25 is unable to login daoc just closes no messages at all Solution Copy your daoc portal app data from C:/users/<OS acct name>/appdata/roaming/daoc portal to somewhere safe (contains your quicklogins.) Copy your mods folder out of your portal install folder put them somewhere safe (desktop) completly uninstall daoc portal reboot install portal again Put mods back in place and patch (optional) I typically will log back into game before putting my app data folder back

You will even be able to determine what in that process caused the failure. If you can reproduce the problem, I'm happy to give a hand using teamvierwer or so to determine the cause once and for all, and work on a solution...
