Installed it on another computer. Clean install. Patched it and it crashes just the same.

Then your DAoC files are corrupt. Delete the whole folder and download a fresh client.

I've installed it three times now, each time downloading a new client from here. I've got the discs but it is more space-efficient to use the installer from the net.

They can't be corrupted unless the download is corrupted, which is the one you are suggesting to download from.

To which destination are you installing it? If it's C:\, try another drive. Could be a permission problem.

The computer that has Vista has UAC turned off and I've tried running everything as an administrator.

The other computer with XP shouldn't have the access issue as well has the installation on a different drive, yet shows the same results.
