Hi all!
i've been playing this game for many years, but unfortunately 2 days ago my HardDisk stopped to work..so i changed hd and then i had to install back everything..but when i go on DaocPortal ---> Settings ---> Browse to select my Installation Folder, it says "The Daoc Installation Specified is not valid!" ....
Here what i did:

-i went to official Dark Age of Camelot website and downloaded the game client
-i followed the instructions given by the installer and after i executed camelot.exe
-it downloaded all game content
-downloaded and installed again Daoc Portal
-then when i go to select daoc installation folder, here is the problem above..

I'm sure the daoc installation folder is the right one (c:\program files\electronic arts\dark age of camelot.. is the only one lol) and this is not the first time i do all this of course lol..

Another problem i noticed is that when i try logging in uthgard with daoc portal, it says i have 1.112 version of the game..i haven't find any rollback to 1.03, so how the hell can i play this game again?? lol

any ideas for all these probelms? Hoping someone help me, thanks anyway! :-)

edit: oh i forgot to say you: after downloaded and installed daoc portal again, i've updated it to last version of course! ;-)

check if you have put the right path for the game in daoc portal
if you have version 1.112 downgrade to 1.109 simply by downloading the 1.109dll and replace your game dll with the downloaded one

you need a version between 1.95 and 1.109
but i guess 1.109 would do the trick :P

I just noticed that in the upper corner of the error message, title is "INVALID CLIENT"...seems like it is a client problem i have installed and not a directory/path problem.. but i got the client from the official web site following a link from here.. if the problem is the client, where can i download a client for me (Italy, Europe)??

I'm having the exact same problem.

My laptop vid card fried on the weekend so I am now on my desktop PC.

Downloaded the client np, into the default directory C > Program Files > Electronic Arts > Dark Age of Camelot

I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed also np.

I downloaded DaoC Portal v2.7, installed it np but as the OP posted has said I get the "The Daoc Installation Specified is not valid!"

I know with 100% certainty its where it needs to be, the path is correct, so what gives?

Yes the client version of Daoc is 1.12 but I would think one doesn't need to apply the 1.09 game.dll file PRIOR to seeing if the path is correct in Portal?

Anyone out there able to help, this is incredibly frustrating for something I did a few years ago with no problem that is about as basic as it comes.

EDIT : I notice there are Expansion and Language drop down menu's, how are these to be populated? Would this be causing the issue? It seems when you DL DaoC from their official website its one client, you don't choose an expansion anymore (pretty sure its LotM client tho). I remember on my now dead laptop the directory was LoTM but again the default pathway is just Electronic Arts > Dark Age of Camelot (there is no further folder with an expansion name, if that makes any sense). As for the language dropdown menu is that to be left blank? The version of Portal I had on my laptop was different in that there were two toggle buttons for EU and US was it? Sorry for rambling, just want to get this working so I'm providing as much info as I can.

Downpatch?

I DL'd a game.dll file from another thread here (the 1.109 one), and replaced it with the existing game.dll. Those were the instructions posted everywhere.

By the way the current client from EA is 1.112b.

What are you asking? And again how does this matter when the basic path is whats providing the error?

Sorry if I sound a bit bent out of shape but this is brutal to be "stuck" on something that makes no sense

Is anyone out there hosting a previous client? Grasping at straws now.

Blue: Help us out mate please :!:

Yep was the proper way not the way I mentioned above.

Been spending so much time trying to get my new (old) desktop up and running again, eyes are getting fuzzy. Mega hours of windows updates makes me something something.

well it still could be that the game.dll(1.109) you downloaded which fixed the game for 1.110 doesn't work for 1.112b anymore.
But i don't think so. But i can't say for sure as i didn't update.

Shameless bump.

Reformatted my HD and reinstalled my OS (WinXP), all critical updates performed including the newest .NET framework.

Downloaded the game client from EA/Mythic without a hitch.

Downloaded DAoC Portal and still the directory where the game was installed is not accepted.

Error remains - "The Daoc Installation Specified is not valid"

Dumfounded and exasperated.

Not being able to log-in and play with a good reason (server down, isp down) is fine.

Not being able to log-in and play for no good reason (current situation) is lame.

You have to downgrade your install to 1.109 by replacing the game.dll by an older one. You can find it here : http://www.mediafire.com/?kqo1gmf055exp6z
Then, u will be able to patch, install mods, and play.
Have fun !

Nope fail.

To me this has nothing to do with the game.dll and everything to do with portal not accepting/recognizing the path that leads to the proper directory.

I should probably get another different error if I were to actually try to launch the game via portal with an incorrect game.ddl (the one from Mythic), the "you are not invited to this server one" but again, the issue is portal will not accept the path, which is the ONLY path that leads to the proper directory, which in my case is C > Program Files > Electronic Arts > Dark Age of Camelot

Still looking for help here, there seems to be several people (not just here on Uthgard) having the same error as me. So either I'm a twit for not doing something completely obvious or there is a real issue here either with portal or the newest live client unable to be downgraded even though replacing the game.dll posted above did cause the EA patcher to repatch no problem.

Blue where are you

i would suggest you either copy/paste or move the folder into the root drive.

something like "C:\Games\DAOC\"

it could just be a bug in portal that does not accept paths with spaces.
