Whenever I change zones or log out, the chat box says "Your character has been saved" (like it always does). However, whenever my character has been saved, the entire game shuts down and I get an error message that says the game.dll has stopped working.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, but doing so wouldn't let me log into the game at all because it said that I am missing dll's.

I downloaded the dll's online which allowed me to access the game, but I still have the problem where the game closes and the game.dll stops working directly after my character has been saved.

Is there anything I can do, or should I keep uninstalling and reinstalling until I go crazy?

Replace your game.dll with that one.

If that does not help then can you tell me is it only a log out issue ? Or you can't enter some zones ?

I also had this problem but it was easy to fix for me. Just right-click on your daoc folder and uncheck Read-only.

It's both when I log out and when I change zones... For instance, if I were to enter Darkness Falls, the game would close and it says the game.dll has stopped working. And if I try to log out, instead of going to the character select screen it just goes to my desktop with the same error message.

I have the correct dll, there must be something else wrong.

it's a real hassle, especially when i'm in groups with people... i constantly get disconnected whenever I change zones and have to ask them for a re-invite.

Also, my command bar is always reset because my character doesn't seem to actually save. It goes back to how it was back when everything was actually working, which was about 3 weeks ago. It's a real annoyance having to re-do everything each time I log in after getting disconnected.

Please help if possible! It's so irritating!

Have you set daoc (and daoc portal) to run as administrator?

Also, I think I neglected to mention that every time I click on DAoCPortal, an error message pops up that says "Serverlist unavailable: The default serverlist is currently unavailable. Do you want to use the local serverlist (Click on 'No'), or do you want to use an alternative server list (Click on 'Yes')?"

I'm starting to think I must have some sort of virus or something. Nothing seems to make it work and I have been trying plenty of methods...

I appreciate any more help offered though, because I would like to get to the bottom of this and how to fix it. Keep trying to give me more options please!!

Are you sure you gave rights to both daoc portal and the game.dll in your firewall?

Try disable your firewall and connect. If it starts working correctly you know it's your firewall who causes the problem.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to solve the problem either...

I guess i'll probably just deal with it, but it's a real hassle considering i disconnect every time i change zones, which makes it difficult for groups to put up with

"Your character has been saved" is just a textual message. There is nothing else sent to the client than that chat message.

Ah, okay... Well that was just one of the common factors that i noticed, so I thought it might have had something to do with it.

I just disconnect whenever the i quit or change zones...

Instead of going to my character select screen when I quit, it just exits out completely and comes up with the "Your game.dll has stopped working" for some reason. Same thing with changing zones.
