A guildy of mine was having issues with an afk mob farmer.
- the pally would afk where mob spawns, and when it popped, it would aggro slowly die over the course of 10 minutes to his armor procs. this let the pally make gains without actually ebign at his computer.

Is this behavior permitted? Or is it a conduct violation?

I read through the posted rules and didnt see a blatent line that says that this behavior is bannable, although it seems as though it should be. even thuogh it is not in fact use of a bot or autoleveler, it is botlike behavior. Given that uthgard doesnt time out LD clients, an afk farmer could make very significant gains without being at their computer, even if no macro tools were utilized.
I know on live many pet class players (BDs especially) were banned for it as they could afk in a sea of blue mobs and wake up the next day 5 levels higher and a lot of gold richer.

If we see this sort of afk farming occuring, should we appeal in game with name and location? my guildie tried that last night but nothing came of it. so maybe either no GM was on, or the player was actually back at his computer in time to answer a msg from the GM.

There was already one thread about afk-leveling and staff said that this kind of *leveling* is allowed

i NEVER heard that any one got banned for afk-lvling, maybe they all used some autotools to avoid the "automatic disconnect" due afk-time.

i think on uthgard u will also get an auto disconnect after 1 hour, if you dont move your mouse / touch your keyboard.

PS: and believe me this paladins loses more money with his electricity bill than earning platins in daoc

yeah i thought i read that posted in an english forum but the response there wasnt by a dev.

from online i cant find the reference to any mass bannings. just individuals qqing on VN about being banned because it was against the spirit of the game clause in the CoC.

in the broader sense, the only form that is clearly bannable is leaving a pet on aggressive while afk. and even then only if the aggressive pet kill steals. that case was clearly stated on live in a grab bag. http://web.archive.org/web/200505091836 ... /469.shtml
and is consistant with the utghard rules. so it seems like this passive/defensive farmign is legit.

I might join that pally with mine then and afk farm some junk dartmoor stuff while i sleep. it may not be much money, but its free money. and so long as its passive it seems legit.

That can get a big problem for your account. Sorry. If a GM does a check and you are not immediately available it will cause a permban. In most cases you will be propably safe due to different IP.

Add: I can assure you that a GM will watch you for some time for buffbot behaviour.

So even if your IPs are completely different and all you're doing is helping a friend level, you can still get permabanned?

He (and other GMs in the past) have said it's fine if you have different IPs.

You should actively play. We don't want to see "rent-a-buffbot" models.

here in this thread you pretty much support the "rent-a-buffbot". You got right to change your opinion about it anytime you want ofc, but would you guys try and keep rules clean and simple?

Everytime similar topics pop up, theres a new statement that differs with the previous one without any form of notification.

The rule is clear. He must not be afk and it has to be a different person. I have no problem if he offers buffbot services and sits on the computer playing that char, chatting with players. Not ok is offering such buffbot service and leave the computer. If a GM does his check and the other char doesn't respond this will cause trouble. We have some "intelligent" players who use proxies or tor networks. So we have to consider this buffbot'ing too.

If somebody has to go afk for longer period he should disband. This same rule includes Powerleveling services where the small char is leveled up without being actively played. Afk leveling/farming = no.

To come back to the initial post. Pet on aggressive mode in a spot and leaving computer = afk leveling/farming = bannable action.

you should add this to the rules somehow...i leveled my cab a lot like that, cause i was at work and couldnt play continuously but rather check every 5-10 mins...

and is it also bannable to stand in a spot with some sort of selfhealing (pala heal chant for instance) and kill mobs afk with reactive procs? if so, add that to the rules too...farmed named like that with my arms (at work too )...it doesnt affect me, as i cant play at work anymore but others might wanna know whats bannable and what not..
