Linkdead issues.

Alright. Well, I've tried everything that everyone else has to fix the linkdead issues that I've been having, nothing helped. So I asked my guild mates about it and they said it could be because I'm using wireless internet. I am, indeed, using a wireless card to access the internet. What I need is ideas on how to get rid of issue where I go linkdead every few minutes. A while few nights ago, I went linkdead five times in less than two hours.
Please note that I cannot use a wire to connect to the internet, mainly because of parental issues with said wire. I'm on the second floor of my house, the router is down in the basement and thus I have to have a wire going all the way up here and my mother will not allow that. To be brief, I want information on how to fix the issues I'm having with going linkdead -without- buying anything or changing to non-wireless internet. I'm not too entirely sure on if it's my wireless card that's causing the linkdead problems, but it seems to be the only culprit. Edit: I almost forgot a little bit of information. When there are a lot of players on, generally more than four hundred, I seem to go linkdead much less, almost not at all. But... When there are around eighty players online, I go linkdead every few minutes. There have been times where I've gone linkdead a lot more during high population hours, like today where I was constantly going linkdead when there were over three hundred eighty players online. Any information that may help me would be greatly appreciated. |

what wireless card are you using, what drivers? are you enhancing the signal in any way, do you have wireless phones, microwaves in between, how thick are the walls? some questions that might help getting a step closer to the answer

I'm using a "Wireless G Plus Desktop Card" from Belkin. Not sure what you mean by "drivers", so you'll have to elaborate on that. I'm not enhancing the signal. At least, not that I know of. Yes, we have two wireless phones, but they're no-where near my computer. No microwave near it, either, but I do have a wireless one or so I think. The wire could be hidden. The walls aren't that thick, but I'm on the second story of my house, so there's a ceiling/floor between my computer and the router and I'm not sure how thick it is. I did not set up my computer, my brother did and, unconviently, he is out of town for a while. I'd have to check with my mother on how long he's gone for. I don't dabble in his affairs often.
As for your problems, Lenithiel, you might want to search this same forum for "linkdead" and read through the resulting topics. They have some fixes that I've already tried, none of which worked for me, but might work for you. |

How´s your signal strenght? Most routers´ antennas are set up so they only work horisontally and the signal is very weak if you go above or below the router.

It actually states that it's "Good" with a speed of 125.0 MBPS. At least, that's what the icon on the task bar says when I put my cursor over it. When I open up the utility, it says that I have three bars and also says "Your network is running smoothly."

Well, I can only suggest you try different router and/or different wlan card on your pc. Updating firmware on both (if available) might help. Some routers and cards just won't work together.

I'd suggest looking for new drivers (the software that makes your wireless card work in the computer), see if it helps. I used to have trouble on my old D-Link wireless setup, and had to use wireless... But fixed it by getting another set of drivers (that wasnt even for my card, but worked for the 'chipset').
I understand if its a bit much to take in if you aren't too good with computers and how they 'work', but maybe your brother can help you when he gets back, sounds like he knows a thing or two about computers ![]() Hope it helps a little. |
