I tried getting onto the game last night. Downloaded and patched DAoC, and when I tried to download DAoC Portal, it keeps failing to download.

It goes to ~90% complete and says:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2503."
Then:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2502."

I tried searching for a solution and all I came up with was people saying to update the .net framework but when I tried installing .net 3.5 sp1, it didn't do anything. When I tried installing the newest .net 4 one, it said I already had it.

Using Windows 8 if that makes a difference.

EDIT:
Found how to uninstall .net framework 4.0 that I had. When I try to install the .net framework 3.5 sp1, it doesn't run. I ran as admin, it asks if I want to run it, clicked yes, window goes away and nothing happens.

This is getting extremely annoying.

RESOLVED

I finally figured it out. Windows 8 has both .net framework 3.5 and 4.0 installed but some of the features of 3.5 aren't turned on.

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) - Then hit the '+' sign to the left of it to bring down the drop box. Checked the two boxes that appeared.

I went back to the program, it still didn't work so I right clicked the portal setup installer, and chose Properties. From there, went to Compatibility tab and checked the 'Run this program in compatibility mode'. It failed but popped up asking if I wanted to run the troubleshooter. The troubleshooter ran the program and got it running.

Hope this helps anyone else that may have this problem in the future.
