Renderer Creation Failed!

I followed the instructions for installation and set up and all was well till I attempted to log in. Then I got the "renderer creation failed" message. Where have I gone wrong?

which OS are you using und what is the model of your GPU?

Sorry I should of included that info. Windows 8.1 and Core i5-3470 processor.

that was your CPU, but the error has something to do with your graphics card. i hope it's not some onboard crap.

in early daoc times this error was "direct X not up to date"

As a precautionary measure I checked my version of directx and am currently running version 11. Not sure if this is the cause of my problems or not but more information rarely hurts :)

I updated my video driver for win 8.1 in hopes of setting this straight but no joy. Anyone have any ideas?

Does WIndows 8.1 still have the compatibility mode? You might want to try and set it to Windows XP then.
