Just once I'd like to be able to get back to playing without issues after a fresh reformat or, my case now, a new PC and OS.

I've done this a few times now (in the past 3 years) and it never once goes smooth, and I'd like to think I am not a complete idiot since I manage to get up and running at some point :x

I require some help please, and will be as specific as I can:

I'm running Win 7 Home 64bit (completely and utterly new to me, been on XP for 11 years). The game client is downloaded np. I have replaced game.dll with the 1.09 file np. I have Portal installed v2.6 which I upgraded to v2.8. The destination path in Portal is fine (I know it works if you get an error msg there).

Now.... the issue I am having are the mods.

I create the folder /mods and place it in the right directory (trust me its right!). I copy the 5 .dmm files (from Uthgards website) into the /mods folder. I goto Client > Mod Manager and see nothing (there should be 5 files there, and they ARE there when I search my HDD and follow the path to DAoC Portal\mods

And to make matter worse, I try to fire up the game and get a popup via Portal (v2.8 remember) saying it wants to "run/install" some mods. Fine I click ok..... game runs to character screen. But I know what is coming.... the newer crappy icons I cannot stand. I am correct. No good.

I uninstall Daoc Portal, delete the DAoC Portal folder. Empty trash bin. Reboot.

I reinstall Portal and LEAVE is at v2.6 since this was the version I was using with no issues on my old crappy PC. I'll be glad to deal with upgrading Portal another day, I just want to get back playing atm.

I, again, create the folder /mods and place it where I know it goes. I copy over 5 .dmm files (from Uthgards website) into the /mods folder. Again I goto Client > Mod Manager and see the 5 files (one is red?). I click "patch" as instructed and get this:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click 'continue' the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click 'quit' the application will close immediately.

Access to the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\modmgr.log is denied.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Really is all I can say to myself at this point.

I'd be pretty grateful to hear from Blue or Trish on this. Short of uninstalling everything, including the game client which seems overkill, I at a complete loss as to what happened, why it happened and how to remedy.

Lastly (maybe most importantly), how the hell do you grant FULL admin rights to yourself? I'm the only user of this PC, no one will ever use this PC. Unless there is a serious security issue I cant wrap my head around I see no reason to have to deal with granting permission to do anything on my own PC. Every time I went to move a file, or make some small change I've done 1 million times in XP, I get some BS message asking me to change permissions / make admin ( a great example were the 5 .dmm mod files).

Help would be MUCH appreciated.

Apologies in advance for being too thorough or long winded... very frustrating evening.

1. Update Daoc Portal to 2.8
2. Rightclick - properties - run as Admin! (DaocPortal)
3. It will check for mods after if it wants to install them , let it install them.
4. Get a Custom Ui like Derida/BobsUi/GhostUi for the old icons, if you don't like the new one.

Edit: Daoc Portal 2.8 shouldn't even need Admin-rights.
Blue knows how to perform headshots in daoc!

You need .NET 3.5. It can be seen from the 2.0 references in your error that you use .NET 2.0

OK. I talked to Metty and its way easier to install. You don't have to bother with copying files to directories at all.

:arrow: Install DAoCPortal, let it update to 2.8.
:arrow: Connect to Uthgard to prove that it works.
:arrow: Download iconfix and DOUBLECLICK it
:arrow: In Modmanager set checkmark and patch

Done.

That did it. I had no idea you could doubleclick a .dmm file and they all show up in my \mod folder now.

Maybe you guys should update the "how to connect" section for people with newer OS's since I follwed it perfectly and had nothing but issues :grin:

Thanks so much.

The how to connect is outdated due to the 2.8 Portal release.
