Spaces? No that's just the way I typed it.

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot is the directory portal will not accept.

and there are spaces in the path... "program files" for example might be causing a problem if they forgot to include quotes around the path input field.

portal could be interpreting your daoc installation folder as "C:\Program"

I've done it myself when programming... its a schoolboy error but worth checking.

just try it anyway and see what happens.

Going to he honest, not sure what you mean here. Who is "they" in the above sentence? I see no quotes in the directory pathway in Portal in settings aka C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot.

I'm using portal v2.7, not sure if using another version would make any difference, mine doesn't have the EU / USA buttons but again, this all seems moot without portal even recognizing that the path and directory exist.

The last thing I am going to try is adding a LotM folder, like my install was on my now dead laptop, then throw everything there so it would be : C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM. Surely it won't work but I'm grasping at straws now.

And that's the other thing that is bothering me... what expansion do I pick under drop down considering there really aren't expansions anymore? I've tried everything with both of these drop downs also with no luck.

Thanks for the replies and help.

try this:

1. explore to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot
2. press CTRL+A to select everything in your "Dark Age of Camelot" folder
3. press CTRL+C to copy the highlighted items
4. Explore to C:\
5. Create a folder called Camelot
6. Explore into C:\Camelot
7. Press CTRL+V
8. in "Camelot" folder, rename "game.dll" to "game.backup", click Yes to confirm.
9. copy in the new game.dll 1.109 file from http://www.mediafire.com/?kqo1gmf055exp6z
10. Launch DAoCPortal
11. in portal go into settings and select "C:\Camelot" as your game path
12. In Expansion select "Labyrinth of the Minotaur"
13. in Language select "English"
14. Click Patch
15. on window that opens that asks you to begin, click cancel - DO NOT CLICK "START UPDATE".
16 Close the DAoCPortal Settings window, select you server and try logging in.

If that fails then i wouldn't be surprised if EA have altered the client files so as to prevent people from using non-ea servers.

in which case you will need to get a <1.109 client to play with.

I don't think we can link them here though as it is against the EULA of the original client and is in breach of copyright protection.

Well I managed to get back in-game.

Even though portal gives me the path error, I installed the older version game.dll and patched all the mods and decided to hit play and voila it works np. Hopefully there or no more glitches.

Now to try an figure out how to get all my old settings and char files to the new install since I managed to make a complete copy of my old harddrive.

Do you rem what files they were, specifically the keyboard settings file? Keyboard.dat doesn't seem to be it and I really don't want to replace the user.dat files unless I'm sure they are ok to move. Also why are there 2 files for each character name and do both need to be moved over also?

Thanks Borog for trying to help, much appreciated,

yup copy all the files from your documents and settings folder.

On win 7 its here:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM

on XP its something like

c:\documents and settings\%username%\Application Data\Electronic Arts\Dark age of camelot\lotm

Solved.

i win.

daoc portal has a bug in it. and this is how you clear it:

use compatibility mode (yes on daoc portal)

no the program wont work. you want it to error.
so do win 95, 98, 2k
then turn compatibility off.

that worked for me.

p.s. this has nothing to do with game.dll installations...

there has been PLENTY of so-called tech support posts

all resulting in someone saying "you have the wrong game.dll"
first off... if you have a problem, your going to try to fix it... and reading forums... then when after all that has been said adn done, then you ask questions...

stop answering with "game.dll...."
