I have portal all setup with mods and pointing to the DAoC directory (not on C:\). Inputted the information for Uthgard, entered account info, and the error is:

"DAoC was unable to get the path to your My Documents directory. You may need to change your security settings."

Running Vista 64bit home, UAC turned off, yet I ran the portal as administrator. My documents directory is simply D:\ on this computer as well.

Also/Edit: When I try to run vanilla DAoC from camelot.exe, it patches, but when I hit play it says: "The patch program failed to launch game executable." Is this normal, or because of the previous error, etc?

It should probably be something like:

D:\Dark age of camelot\

And not simply D:\

No, in Windows, D:\ IS my "My Documents" directory. Creating a "Dark Age of Camelot" folder in both D:\ and D:\Electronic Arts\ did nothing to resolve the problem.

The directory in the settings have to direct to camelot.exe

Not "My Documents"

I have done exactly that as I said in the first line of the OP.

That isn't the problem.

It isn't getting security permissions for some reason to create the folder in My Documents - and running the portal as an admin did nothing. UAC turned off, all such security settings are off.

what happens if you just run camelot.exe from the install folder?

my install directory in wondow 7 64 bit is c:\program riles (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dark age of camelot

My screenshots and chat log directory in windows 7 64 bit is libraries\documents\my documents\electronic arts\dark age of camelot\

hope helps some since vista and windows 7 are little similar.

Is the "My Documents" on your D drive left over from a Vista upgrade? I upgraded XP to Vista, and it made a My Documents that I couldn't even access. Can you access the My Documents folder manually?

you'll probably find more luck posting on the DAOC Portal forum as opposed to the Uthgard forum

Portal is 3rd party to this server after all.

As it turns out, the DAoC client is a remarkably stupid one.

As soon as I changed the My Documents directory in Windows from D:\ to D:\My Documents\ it worked perfectly.

****** technology...
