If a mob is attacking you, but you have to heal someone, is it more effective to do nothing or to use the detaunt style?

And if the latter, should the style be used until the mob stops attacking you, or is it more effective to use it once (or a only a few times) and do nothing after?

Or does detaunt only has its effect if you have used taunt before on that mob (i.e., only "negating" the previous taunts, but doing nothing w.r.t. losing aggro from heals etc.)?

first off, how did you get aggro?! there should be something else doing damage enough to keep aggro off of you.

in any case i would recommend detaunting once and then sheathing weapon and, if you can sprint out of melee range without causing some other issue, this will get the mob off of you quick, assuming someone else is there. aggro switches fast if you can move out of range and you should be free to heal then.

The way it works on live (so not sure if it works that way here) is that each player has an aggro value. Doing damage or healing will raise your aggro value on the list. Taunt adds a bonus to your aggro value. Which person the mob is on is based on their aggro value and their range from the mob.

detaunting lowers your value (although it can't remove your from the aggro list)

So theoretically detaunting is greater than doing nothing.... however it's also more effective to get range from the target so that it swaps to someone else on the list.

Also you can ask your bard to throw amnesia, which, if it lands, should clear the aggro values of people on the list, making the mob jump on the tanks who are trying to attack it off of you.

Again... that's just how it works on live... it appears to work that way here, but I've not done a whole lot of testing with detaunt styles
