Hello, I played Alb for years and with the new launch in less than a month, my friends have convinced me to switch to Hib. I wanted to play a VW but had a few questions. What is the better race, Firbby or Celt? Also, where should I allocate my stats at creation?

Finally, for leveling, what should I expect and how should I allocate my points? I want to be able to solo and be useful in group, as well as BG if there's action.

Thanks in advance!

Why you are leaving Sylvan out of the list?

I had a brain fart and thought that for some reason sylvan wouldn't be available due to SI not being out...then I was reminded that VW was in SI lol. Sylvan is an option, I think Furb might be better through since STR is the primary stat for scythes.

Sylvan

Starting stats are entirely personal preference. All of str/con/dex/qui/int are good.

34 Arboreal is the golden number for the last abs buff any more is up to you but not really needed.

I like:

50 Scythe
36 Arb
20 Parry

Going str/con/qui for starting stats.

I had seen some other suggestions recommending 44 scythe 43 arb and something like 23 parry. Is there a reason going with the 50 scythe is so important?

The pro : More scythe = more weapon skill = more defense penetration

The cons : The lvl 50 style is the 4th combo after evade = big lol

You mean : 50s - 36a - 23p or 50s - 38a - 20p ?
36a = yellow disease proc
37a = yellow snare 56sec
38a = 30 sec 34% haste

Other specs you can go with : 44s - 43a - 23p or 44s - 33a - 36p or 44s - 36a - 33p or 44s - 38a - 30p

Imo the best still : 50s - 43a - 2p

Sorry yeah, 38Arb for the haste and getting 50 composite for DD dmg at earlier RR. I dont see 43 arb worth losing 18 parry but that personal pref.

OP: I'd never drop Scythe under 50, you need all the weapon skill you can get.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the tips. Now to level, is there a recommended way to go? I got to level 5, but I don't know where the hot spots are like I did in Alb. Is there a guide I might be able to find? I didn't see it on the main Hib forum.

do killtasks out of mag mel until i thikn 8 or so? unforutnatly when i was hib earlier, you couldn't do killtasks from tir na mbeo at that point but if that got changed it would be good next.

but there are mobs down there to grind all over the place. muire tomb is ok after that for a bit.
find groups if you can.

for my valewalker once you get reactionaries i just auto attack and use parry/evade one when it comes up which is very often. lifetap to fill health/pull and you can really cut downtime to almost nothing (esp if you get mcl).

it is one of the easier classes in game to solo xp with , for little downtime, and quite fun and powerful once you get the hang of it.

Also going to be my first time playing a VW. Going to roll a Sylvan because I just love the look.

Starting stats are:
70 Strength
60 Constitution
55 Dexterity
45 Quickness
70 Intelligence

I plan on going +10 str (weapon damage), dex (cast speed, evade, parry), and then I can't decide on the last points. Is it worth going quickness for attack speed and evade boost? Intelligence for mana pool and damage? Constitution for HP (not fond of this option)? +10 to one of them or +5 to a couple? I feel like VW utilize more stats than almost any other class and the combinations are endless.

The +10 int and strength bonus over Celts makes me feel like I should put the stats toward quickness.

I played a VW for a long time. In OF and NF. My favorite class until they got OPd later on.

If i was going to make another I would go Celt for the higher Dex. As a VW dex efefcts your casting speed, parry, and evade.
+10 STR/CON/DEX imo

Also go 44scythe, 43 Arb, 23parry. You do NOT need to go 50 scyth. the higher arb tools and parry are much more valuable to you than a 4chain style you will very rarely get to use. Also VW already has very high weapon skill, going form 44 to 50 wont make that much of a difference, especially when you factor in +11 from gear and + from realm ranks.

Your parry and evade are not just import because they stop you from being hit but because they also allow you to unleash your evade or parry counter attack chains which are very very powerful. This is also why i would want the more dex/qui from being a celt. For realm abilities I would go with Dodger, Ma parry, and Ma Pain after purge.

Go 50 scythe, you need the weaponskill. A big slow weapon missing more often is death.
