New player - Ranger?

Hello,
I was playing Ranger on live at least 10 years ago, I came here to play on a server without the mess of ToA and further extensions. I'm actually lvl 16 and if I read correctly this forum, the ranger is not dealing as expected? I just wanna have fun in RvR, and as far as I remember Ranger wasn't a garbage class, is it now? Life is pretty rough for rangers from my point of view, still there are situations where you can do well. stealth groups and keep defenses primarily. Soloing much past ganking expers is going to be difficult for you.
