Haven't seen this elsewhere on the forums ... what RVR skills should a skald prioritize?

You mean realm abilities? Or actual gaming skillz.

Thanks. I looked up some guides on other websites -- almost all recommended FA2, Ignore Pain, Purge. What is your rationale for your choices?

He has no clue.

Always as melee take at least lw1. So you can regen end while running.

Purge is really crucial on Skald since you dont have det.

After that you can go the passive Route and the active Route

Passive is avoidance of magic to counter enemys debuff nuke.

Active route would be IP so you can overextend and Interrupt the enemys backline

Always remember: you are not a dmg dealer. You are a Song giver and interrupt bot.

In the end it isn't about what you should get, but in which order.

You'll be sprinting a lot, LW1 saves a decent amount of endu and allows you to sprint indefinitely with yellow endu. Many groups require you to have it at 1.

Purge is extremely important on classes that don't have Det, one root and you're out of the game for 30~40 seconds, also your healers may not always be able to demez you.

FA2 + IP is only really useful solo or in small groups, if you have to use IP in a full group it's likely that your group is already dead anyway. 23 points for something that will very rarely change the outcome of a fight is too much at low rank. If you really want it as quickly as possible, take something else until you're at least 4L4 and respec.

Avoidance of Magic isn't a bad RA but again, you aren't a priority target. I personally never felt the need to take it over other good RAs.

And this includes MoP (pain, not parry). It increases your damage output which is nice even if you aren't in the melee train, that occasional crit on a secondary target has the potential to disturb healing on the main target. Skald has very decent melee damage for a hybrid class.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll rethink my gameplan.

You could also ask high rank Skalds what they choose and in which order. You can find them there: http://www.incguild.com/herald
There are probably quite a few going for IP sooner and even taking Mastery of Parrying, but they probably often play solo.

IP has its uses in groups for a skald aswell. A skald is generally expected to interupt and the range of the dd's being fairly short, a by product of this can be over extention, for which IP is a good tool in these situations. Obvisously it is best not to over extend in the first place.

Long wind does not regenerate endurance. That would be "tireless". With Long Wind it only takes 4 endu a tick while sprinting, not 5.

So as mentioned above you can sprint longer and have permasprint with endu4.

I think he is referring to the fact that with LW1 you can regenerate endu whilst sprinting when you have red buff.

The enemy lined the shore in a dense armed mass.
Among them were black-robed women with disheveled hair like Furies, brandishing torches.
Close by stood Druids, raising their hands to heaven and screaming dreadful curses.

Strongly disagreed in regards to 8v8. Especially against caster-heavy enemy groups, Skald is (similar to Minstrel) always a great target to go for since it's the class that is almost supposed to overextend at the beginning of the fight. In groups with no immediate long-range backline interrupt aka Runemaster, you want to be the first in the enemy's backline, and that makes you a prime slam into debuff into kill target.

As Kaziera already pointed out, doing damage is not your first job; it's interrupting. For that you want everything you can get to improve survivability while being in the enemy backline. I can see MoP being a filler for AoM4 before 4L4, but I personally will most likely try out AugCon instead of MoP. My route was as followed:

LW1
Purge
LW2
AoM1
AoM2
AoM3
AugCon1
AugCon2
Respec into AoM4 instead of AugCon2
Back into AugCon

Next

Return to Skald
