Subpet aggro.

If I have my pet on defensive and a mob aggros one of my subpets, the commander doesn't automatically attack the mob. Is this the correct behavior? My commander isn't in combat or doing anything at all so it's not like he has already received a command to perform an action. He just sits there and lets the subpet get attacked.
