The next item in Blue's queue is the archery speed damage bug. Will it make archers viable? Who knows but it will help!

Free rps for assassins - so yeah, it would be cool if they looked at it. I'll repost this once a year ;p

Yea still waiting on input from players to move on with this issue, if nobody takes the time to research this it won't get fixed.
(If a fix is needed in the first place, which nobody is certain about yet)

Anyone who played a scout knows the difference. Genesis was nearly as bad as well - maybe just as bad, with bow damage.

The issue here, is while developers will state they need more proof - those of us who played live will (and often have) question the developer's (a) experience with the game in any of the archer patches...(b) upon wanting to accept that devs have played a level 50 archer on live during the September 2001-2008(2010?)...should know better and thusly must have a personal reason as to make things different while continuing to act as if more data is needed.

Archery's a horrible responsibility for developers to begin with, because you have to sit and think, do I want this aspect of the game to feel realistic?

Mythic made the decision back in 2010 to take away common sense bow mechanics, such as the advantages that came from shooting long distances from a tower, or the reality that, once a magic bubble was penetrated (where fantasy and reality collide), the next shot should clearly be lethal.

The Battle of Agincourt (a 1415 victory of the English over the French...), is a prime example of what a trained bowman can do to a heavily armored knight...nevermind every other class in the video game.

Granted, let's NOT forget that the "English" archers at Agincourt, most likely Welsh or Welsh trained (or even French conscripts!), might have begun their rigor as young as four or five years of age...practicing daily in a country where at that time all non-landed men were required to train at longbows each Sunday by law.

quote:

Whereas the people of our realm, rich and poor alike, were accustomed formerly in their games to practise archery – whence by God’s help, it is well known that high honour and profit came to our realm, and no small advantage to ourselves in our warlike enterprises…that every man in the same country, if he be able-bodied, shall, upon holidays, make use, in his games, of bows and arrows…and so learn and practise archery. Edward III (1363)

And, in regards to the damage of an arrow:

…[I]n the war against the Welsh, one of the men of arms was struck by an arrow shot at him by a Welshman. It went right through his thigh, high up, where it was protected inside and outside the leg by his iron chausses, and then through the skirt of his leather tunic; next it penetrated that part of the saddle which is called the alva or seat; and finally it lodged in his horse, driving so deep that it killed the animal. Gerald of Wales, 12th century English historian

Of course, the devs could just be fair and see if someone they personally know played a scout so they could get something more convincing in lieu of their clear lack of experience with the class or their intended choice to nerf archers across the board.

All that being said, while we really aren't 100% going for what doac was in this era (where's SI, for example?), it's fair enough that since this project belongs to a group of people, that those people get to nerf and boost whatever they feel like affecting.

If the devs want any kind of real support for the boosting of the archer, they need only study the following battles:

Sluys (1340), Crécy (1346), Poitiers (1356)...to at least ascertain what a "scout" in a fantasy setting, nonetheless (free of dysentery, for example, lol)

If the devs want to see what a scout can do because (a) they are innocent of intending to keep archers nerfed so that they are unplayable (b) they really have no idea because they were all in college programming courses while we were playing scouts in 2001+ rvr... or (c) they really want to fix the class, and to this day have yet to test it due to some unknown reason then...they can just refer to the remaining old videos, or roll one up themselves to get a clear picture.

So...the final point? They could take a census and see how many agree bow damage is below standard, or just ignore it as they've done for so long which is as well their right to do so - they clearly do not support that class, no matter how "live-like" they are claiming to be - just not live like where it personally affects the boss of the project. They could clearly test the class...but I've said that. And, as with all things, time will tell - and time, my friends, is something Uthgard feels it has quite a lot of.

My 2 pense (which is four less per day than an English longbowman might have earned under Henry V).

Don't hold your breath...

I've been testing archery mechanics since beta. We (all archers not just scouts) know something is off but since you can't fully test archery on live now, it is based on grainy vids, formulas from sites that can't be confirmed, and memory.

They are not convinced anything is wrong and there is no way to "prove" there is.

There could be a quickness/fire rate/bow speed component...
There could be an armor absorb component...
There could be a formula error (not taking into account 2H and extra bow damage values in the damage formula).

In Thid, I (ranger) am using a MP 4.7 speed bow (Guardian's Bow). Recurve is at my level and have have high pathfinding (sniper spec).

My weapon damage at level 34 is 11.4 My WS with PF buffs is 780. A typical hit (before subtracting for resists is around 175-200.

What I've noted is that there is not much damage difference between armor types. Against a yellow cloth caster it still takes around 5-6 shots to kill (that is assuming the 1st shot was a bubble breaker). For an archer that is a lifetime.

My memory on my old scout was once bubble was down, 2 shots would take down a cloth wearing class. Def. not the case here.

Who knows..maybe everyone is tweaked out with MP gear here and back then everyone was wearing 89qu garbage...or there is something wrong with the mechanics.

All I know is I am maxed out in terms of bow damage..maxed dex, max weapon damage.

No, it's all pre-TOA. The videos were re-posted to youtube in 2012 by the actual Quivna.

Another good thing is that some of the time he runs pathfinding buffs only, showing the high dmg of bow then vs what we have here.

Proof of pre-toa: https://forums.freddyshouse.com/threads ... re.133420/

They are asking for his new video. 'WTF' was his first one iirc.
