Noob scout questions

I don't plan on rolling a scout right away, but I'm a bit bored and want to consider it as an option down the road.
Is Saracen race with 15 dex 10 quick at creation the way to go? I'm interested in sit and wait style play and pick someone off with big damage and not rely on melee to get rps. Is 50 shield brutalize decent crush damage? I would think it would be a endo hog but would be a last ditch effort to finish off a toon if he got close to me, instead of widdling away at them with my crap melee. Is 50 bow necessary or 45 adequate? I'd like to be like a sniper and pick people off with 1 or 2 hits. Is this even possible? In terms of ATing, is it necessary to AT all the way to 48 or is there a point where you can stop a bit early like 40 or 36? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! |

Personaly i would go:
50bow 42shield 39stealth 6pierc Later when you raise your rr,respec stealth and put more in pierc/sword whatever you want to play, and imo try add as much as you can or get grp with other sneaks to gain rr fast Best Sniper Ranger on Uthgard since 2007.

Jarq, 39 Stealth? No way All assasins will see u anyway! U will have 50 stealth or 46-47 at beginn.
ShepDex, with 50 bow u will deal a bit more dmg then with 45 for sure, but not so much that u can kill someone with 2-3 hits. U will need allways 3-7 shots. (3 shots at caster without buble maybe, and one of that 3 shot must be CS ) 45 Bow 42 Shield (50? Not with low rr, without IP, purge etc.) 36 Stealth (respec stone will be not cheap) rest Thrust weapon Start Points: 15 dex 10 Con (10 qui? for what? Melee? u r sniper! ) Rase: Sara Max AT is allways better. |

I thought I saw somewhere that quickness effects your draw speed or fire speed. |
|
I wouldn't put 10 into Constitution for any character that isn't a primary melee archetype.

Good scout spec
Autotrain to 12 at least and can do below listed. More AT be better so when higher RR can drop stealth for more thrust. You need at least 18 thrust for tranq style. Use it to boost defense and dps with 50 shield style as follow up, heavy dmg med fatigue. Try to stay ranged but ur shield better dps than sword if in melee. 37 stealth 19 thrust (no AT be 18 thrust) 50 shield 40 bow RR 7 with No AT 33 stealth 25 thrust 50 shield 40 bow |

what are the right starting points? I was told quickness affects drawing speed, is it true? I did 15 dex 10 const. is it wrong?

DIfferent people got diferent opinions on starting points. On saracen i would go 10 dex 10 con 10 qui. Mine is briton so i do 15 dex 10 qui.
All in all it doesn`t matter much those little points. You can reduce draw speed with mastery of archery and with lower qui your shots hit harder. Fabienne - Blademaster

Old thread I know, but just wondering: Can highlanders be scouts on uthgard 2?
Or was that a later patch than 1.65? |

They should be able too. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk |

Highlander/Inconnu is best for Scout.
Don't put any points in Quickness. Reminder to Self: Quality over Quantity, what is the Value here?

I am curious, can you explain further regards this choice? Saracen is the norm for the extremely high starting dex or so I thought? Why are highlanders better? And as we are talking paper daoc the following spec at 24 good or bad? Stealth: 16 Thrust: 18 (or should this be slash for highlander? I am thinking Beartooth is a very good style no?) Shield: 23 Longbow: 6 (Auto-train) |

If you hit High AF targets you need to use crit shot to engage and rapid fire with as slow a draw speed as possible. To cap DPS on high AF/absorb targets you need 6.6 speed, so the slower the better (5.8 is max with SI)
For regular target (600 AF) 0-10 % absorb you need a draw speed of around 3.6 to hit cap damage. For 24 and you plan to continue autotraining, as Highlander I suggest 18 stealth, 21 slash, 18 shield, 6 bow. You wont hit the 23 (back) shield positional, but the (On-Block) 18 style yes, then you can place side slash 21 style. Slash is better for highlander, and for scout overall, you have low evade and block, you need your defenses, most slash style don't give negative benefit to defenses, while thrust do. Go highlander with either +15 str +10 dex or +15 dex +10 str. You can also go +10 dex/con/str. Also for melee, slow weapon first hit is free, so you want to be slow in melee as well, less qui is better, and slash weapon are slower. Then you can stun with a quick shield, switch weapon to similar speed as quick shield and place posititonal, before stun expires take the slower melee weapon to have the free slow hit again, then switch back if you have to finish him up. If you wanna be more of a sniper then go Inconnu slash you will hit for 15% less slash damage, but you will have a little bit higher defenses and higher bow damage. Also Inconnu are small. You want to go slash also because slash has bonus on Shadowblade Leather and Shadowblade are atm dominating the stealth war. You will have a hard time against thrust NS as your armor is vulnerable to thrust and they resist slash damage. If you want to go 1v1 stealth war (melee) you need all the strength/con you can have so go highlander. Since Scout are targets of stealther because they have see hidden, then you most likely do more melee than sniping, which is why I say Highlander is the one you should go for. Reminder to Self: Quality over Quantity, what is the Value here?

Do not go slash for the love of god unless you plan to remain at 29 weapon spec.
Good luck vs str/con debuff poison and getting a str/con charge item. Highlanders do the same damage with thrust as Britons thrust and Inconnus Thrust. Only one superior to thrust damage is the Saraceans. |
