Dearest videtorium,

I have been playing around a bit with the Charbuilder and came up with the following spec:

Race: Saracen with +10 Str/Con/Dex

Chants: 46 (this can be 47 if I suffered autotraining chants until level 36)
Thrust: 44
Shield: 42

Main reason for this spec is the "anytimer" haste from the thrust line.

Now what drives me around most is: Is 42 shield sufficient for guarding in rvr?

Hence, is the above mentioned spec a viable spec for a Paladin?

Best thanks in advance! :)

Worth going thrust for the extra dex and take the con hit?

Yes, 44 thrust is nice for RvR ( peel style ). Saracene makes sense in every way.
No, don't listen to those saying that Paladin is useless in RvR.
Yes, 42 shield is enough, your job will be to peel enemy tanks and only guard in rare situations. ;)

For PvE you will get a blue wall of sends (without AT :P).
In RvR you need a smart group respecting / utilizing your utility.
Good luck!

Why is the 44 thrust style good for rvr?

That snare its a 2 steps chain, on the lowest WS class, with zero atk bonus on first step.
Shouldn't like miss A LOT?

Tbh i would rather go 15 in 2handed for 14 sec snare with medium bonus

Paladin is not the class with lowest WS, that's a myth. Pala is equal to skald, champion, reaver, friar. Thrust is 27 sec snare, with 2 fast attacks at cap swing speed. 39 2H one is a backsnare, with lower duration and much slower swing speed. 15 2H sidesnare? It's never more useful than 21 slash version even if it lasts 2 sec longer.

Thrust allows you to snare from every direction and keep guarding your ally. When using 2h snare you drop your guard and even if you switch super fast your ally can be out of range if he is running because it's a back snare.

Two-handed has a 10% hit bonus if you hit composite 38 on your 1h skill. Which means you need 27 slash with +11 from gear. If you go for 46 chants, 42 shield, 39 2h; you can have 23 slash. So you don't get the hit bonus till RR5 or you play without red heal/da for some time.

Also 2H temps are a lot more expensive. So Thrust is superior to 2h at low RR. Would it be better at higher RRs? Maybe. Depends on the player and enemy comp I guess.

Just fooled around a bit with the charbuilder and came up with:

50 shield
44 thrust
37 chants

With this spec you should be able to guard like hell and also do decent peeling on enemies.

Now I'm wondering about the importance of having the highest chants. With 37 chants there is still yellow endu/heal/self buff and you got all resists (at a lower level though).

Is this enough to be able to compete in PvE and RvR? Or is a higher chants spec needed?

Regards,
Zaya
