This guide will help you understanding how to play on Uthgard.
I. Downloading Dark Age of Camelot Note: If you already have a DAoC game client, you can skip this part and continue reading at II. Please note that old installations from CDs won't help you. Unfortunately too much of the game's content has changed over the years. In addition European players would not even be able to update their client since GOA stopped hosting Dark Age of Camelot and the European servers have moved to EA/Mythic. Note: It is recommended to install the game in English. Unfortunately some features (like replying to messages or the stealther's climbing) depend on the game's language. Getting the game is quite simple. Visit the official Dark Age of Camelot website and download the game client. You can use this direct link. Download the installer. Follow the instructions given by the installer. After you have finished the setup, go to the installation directory and execute the camelot.exe. It will download all game contents to your harddrive. This will take some time as the complete game client has a size of around 4,5gb.
II. Downloading and configuring DAoC Portal DAoC Portal is a program that allows you to connect to servers that are not hosted by EA/Mythic. You can download it at the Dawn of Light website or you may want to use this direct link. Follow the instructions given by the installer. After you have installed DAoC Portal you have to configure it. Start DAoC Portal, open the File menu and click on Settings. Click on the Browse button under DAoC Installation and select the directory where you have installed the game to. If you are unsure what to do, watch this tutorial video.
III. Installing additional patches Note: Due to the many changes on the official servers, you will have to install the classic patch to be able to play . The patch enables the access to the old frontiers. To install it you need the newest version of DAoC Portal. If you do not install it, you cannot access the frontiers. Note: If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you have to run DAoC Portal with administrator permissions to execute the patcher. Rightclick on your DAoC Portal Shortcut or the executable and click on "Run as administrator". Note: If you execute the camelot.exe in your DAoC installation directory lateron, all custom patches/mods will be removed. If you update your game client, you will have to reinstall the mods. Download the classic patch under mods in our download section. Place the file in the mods directory in the DAoC Portal folder (e.g.: C:\Program Files\DAoC Portal\mods). If the mods folder does not exist, create it. Launch DAoC Portal and click on Mod manager in the Client menu. Select the patch in the table and click on the Patch button. You may also want to install Tajendi, our custom zone. Sooner or later you may want to go there. It's way easier if you have already installed it then.
IV. Connecting to Uthgard Note: You do not have to register an account on Uthgard. Just use any accountname and a (safe!) password you like and connect. If you cannot enter and the game shows you the message "Your Password is Incorrect!", the account is already taken. Enter another one and try again. There are two ways of connecting to Uthgard. You can either select Uthgard in DAoC Portal, enter an accountname and password and connect or you can use a batchfile to connect. It's your choice. If you want to use the batchfile, you can get it in our download section under Connection Utilities. |
